I actually own this printer but for some reason the website isn't connecting to the Support Home page.

Anyway, I haven't used this printer for a while (and I think I remember why).  The printer was showing the ink levels but was telling me it wasn't installed on both a Windows 10 and WIndows 11 computer.  Neither Windows laptop would add the printer in Device Manager.  So, I reset the Wi-fi and used HP Smart on the WIndows 11 to do a new install.  I got to the point where I had to push the Info button to confirm proximity to the printer.  An hour later, that notification is still up on the screen, a connection to my network is shown behind it but the install hasn't completed.  I need to go to bed so I'm going to have to kill this.

 

What options do I have to get this printer re-installed, and what am I doing wrong?

No idea - maybe nothing.

 

Following is a collection of ideas that might help sort whatever is going on.

The videos are generally pretty helpful - at the least, they can help confirm what you might have tried.

One side note:  if the printer has not been used regularly, it might need new ink cartridges.  Once installed into the printer, the ink (and the printer) are meant to be used to keep the printer and the ink system healthy.  Unused printer can suffer dried ink cartridges.  If the printer has remained connected and "sleeping" during its "non-use" period, it is possible the ink system is OK and that the ink is still usable.  This information is provided FYI.

How to connect printer to 5GHz network

 

Reminder: 

Printer can connect to 5GHz or 2.4GHz network but not at the same time.

Connect the printer to the named SSID network for the frequency / bandwidth you want it to use.

How to uninstall existing (partly) installed printer software

 

Uninstall Existing Printer Software (Full Feature Software)

 

Uninstall HP printer software and drivers

 

Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features >

Find / Select > Uninstall the printer software

Restart the computer and sign  in

 

Reminder

Windows > Uninstall HP printer software > Restart.

Next,

Open Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers

Check > If the printer is found, Right-Click and Remove the printer

If you have to "remove" the printer, next:  Restart the computer and sign in

 

 

NOTE:  If software will not uninstall, appears to be removed and is “still hanging around” after you uninstall / Restart...

Microsoft:  Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed

OR

Revo Uninstaller (Free version)

then

Restart the computer and sign in

HP Smart is an application

 

If installed, the application is located in Settings > Apps > Apps and Features

The application can be uninstalled from that location.

If the application is uninstalled / removed, afterwards >> Restart the computer and sign in

HP Smart for Windows

 

HP Smart is an application available in the Microsoft Store

OR

Open the Homepage / Support Website for your printer

Category Software and Drivers > Check/ Get the App

NOTES: 

  • Read FAQ -  including - What are the requirements to set up a printer using the HP Smart app?

 

  • Disconnect from Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection before downloading.

 

  • Turn on Wi-Fi on your computer or mobile device and connect to your network. If the computer is connected to the network with an Ethernet cable, temporarily disconnect the cable and use the Wi-Fi connection during the setup.

 

  • Enable Bluetooth for an HP Smart app setup: Enable Bluetooth on your computer or mobile device so that HP Smart can detect the printer during the setup.  Source: How to scan with an HP printer > FAQ > Why can't I connect my wireless printer or scan over the network?

 

  • HP Smart requires that you sign into the application using your HP Account credentials.

 

  • When working through a browser to access HP Smart, be sure you have Cookies enabled.  If cookies are enabled and you are having trouble, clear Cache and Cookies.   And / Or … Try a different browser – assign that browser as the Default. (Note:  Chrome not working?  Use / Assign a different default browser.)

 

  • Where possible, HP Smart benefits (likes) having the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software installed.  For example, full driver provides access to Shortcuts and Printing Preferences.

 

  • Document includes the HP Smart application download links for Windows and Mobile devices, plus an FAQ section to assist with questions / issues.
    •  FAQ examples: 
      • What are the requirements to use the HP Smart app?
      • Which printers are compatible with the HP Smart app?
      • Why do I need to sign in or create an account to use the HP Smart app features?
      • Which languages does the HP Smart app support?
    • Older versions of the HP Smart app no longer support the required login feature.
    • Update the application to the latest version to access / use HP Smart

Advice - USB connection - Full Feature Software

 

If all else fails, the following might work to allow you to use the printer without the use of your network.

  1. HP Smart allows USB connection.  Have seen this being done with another printer model but should work for this printer model as well.  Hope you have an USB cable (since it doesn't come in box).

 

Follow the steps in this resource (example)

  1. Install the HP FULL software solution  (with USB)

Download and install the HP FULL software solution.

(at time 1:39, select Manual Setup instead of Automatic Setup)

Choose USB.

 

Note: Only connect USB cable when prompted!

 

The above 2 methods will allow printing and scanning without Wifi.
