Hello to all. How can I install my new Canon D570 printer? It came with a disk to install, but my desktop does not have a DVD. I just got a portable one but can't get seem to get that installed on my printer. There are several USB ports, 4 on the front and 3 on the rear. No matter what I try, nothing is recognized. How can I identify the ports to know which are which?
Seems that in days past whenever you plugged a new device in, the prompt would guide you through the installation. Not happening this time. Ideas? Please keep any solutions as simple as possible or provide specific steps to follow.
Thanks very much.

Hi @Rmarlow1,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To install your Canon D570 printer on your HP Envy desktop without a built-in DVD drive, follow these steps to use your portable DVD drive and ensure proper installation of your printer:
Step-by-Step Guide to Install Canon D570 Printer
1. Connect the Portable DVD Drive:
- Plug the portable DVD drive into one of the USB ports on your HP Envy desktop. Any USB port should work, but for simplicity, use one on the front.
2. Install the Portable DVD Drive:
- Wait for Windows to recognize the portable DVD drive. This should happen automatically. If not, try the following:
- Go to "Settings" > "Devices" > "Connected devices" to see if the portable DVD drive appears.
- If it doesn’t, try another USB port.
- Ensure the portable DVD drive is getting power (check for indicator lights).
3. Load the Installation Disk:
- Insert the Canon D570 installation disk into the portable DVD drive.
- Wait for Windows to recognize the disk. If an autorun prompt appears, select it to begin the installation. If not:
- Open "File Explorer" (Win + E) and navigate to "This PC."
- Locate the portable DVD drive, right-click it, and select "Open."
- Double-click the setup.exe or similar file to start the installation process.
4. Download Drivers from Canon Website (Alternative):
- If the above method doesn’t work, or you prefer not to use the disk, you can download the latest drivers from the Canon website:
- Go to the Canon Support website.
- Enter "Canon D570" in the search bar and select your printer model.
- Download the appropriate drivers for your operating system.
5. Install the Drivers:
- Run the downloaded driver file or the setup file from the disk.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
- Connect your Canon D570 printer to your desktop via USB when prompted. Make sure the printer is powered on.
6. Check USB Ports:
- If the printer is not recognized:
- Test the printer using different USB ports.
- Ensure the USB cable is firmly connected to both the printer and the desktop.
7. Troubleshoot USB Connection:
- If none of the ports work:
- Go to "Device Manager" (right-click the Start button and select "Device Manager").
- Look for any devices with a yellow exclamation mark under "Universal Serial Bus controllers" or "Other devices."
- Right-click and select "Update driver" or "Uninstall device" and then restart your computer.
Additional Tips:
Identify USB Ports:
- USB ports on your desktop can be USB 2.0 (usually black) or USB 3.0 (usually blue). For the printer, either should work, but USB 3.0 is faster.
Printer Troubleshooting:
- Ensure the printer is on and properly connected.
- Check the printer’s display panel (if available) for any error messages.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
