HP Envy 4520 series printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP Envy 4520 series printer.  It won't print in colour from my HP PC, using Windows 10, or my Samsung Galaxy J3 phone running Android 9.  But it will print colour without problem from any ipad-type product, even ancient ones.  My son says it's a problem with a Windows update.  We have gone through all the recommended solutions, re-installing everything, etc.

Hello,

In order to solve this issue, configure a new port as follows:

  1. On the keyboard, press the Windows logo key and the R key simultaneously. The Run window opens.
  2. Type control printers, then press Enter. The Devices and Printers window opens.
  3. Right-click on your printer icon, then click on Printer properties, click on the Ports tab, and click on Add Port....
  4. Select Standard TCP/IP Port and click New Port....
  5. Click Next, then enter the printer's IP address (e.g. 192.168.1.97) in the Printer Name or IP Address field and click Next.
  6. Once the port is added, click Finish and close all windows.
  7. Try to print.

I remain at your disposal in case of need.

Best regards,

Thanks for answering my plea for help.

I followed your instructions, but it did not make any difference.  Then i turned everything off and on again, but still no change.

Hello Mans

Uninstalling HP4520 series basic device software, i get the following error message:

Call to DriverPackageUninstall returned error 5 for package 'C:\WINDOWS\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\hpwia_en4520.inf_amd64_90e3721ebca91ed\hpwia_en4520.inf': A caller of DriverPackageInstall must be a member of the Administrators group to install a drive package.

Btw, I have dull administrator rights on this machine, so I don't understand the error message.

Thanks for your return,

If the software uninstall process does not start or an error displays while uninstalling, download
Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed from the Microsoft website, and then try uninstalling again.

Hello Mans

I have now successfully uninstalled the printer - the troubleshooter was effective: thanks for that.

I have now got to the bit of your instructions using regedit.  I have got to the bit where you say "click with the right mouse button on Hewlett-Packard and Delete."  I am worried about that for 2 reasons:

1. My PC is an HP ProDesk 400 - I don't want to find I've damaged the installation of the PC!

2. There is also heading for "HP", as well as "Hewlett-Packard", and there is an entry under HP for HP Envy 4520 series.

Please advise me what to do!  If you would like a screenshot of what's under the two headings, please let me know how to post it.

Thanks for your help!!

Thanks for your return,

If you are afraid of deleting bad keys from the Windows Registry Editor. You can skip this step and go directly to step 3. Delete the HP ENVY 4520 series folder in the way: and continue the procedure.

Hi Mans

I was unable to follow your instruction "If the PC is HP-branded, develop Hewlett-Packard and remove Digital Imaging".  I could not find "Digital Imaging" under Hewlett-Packard or HP or anywhere else.

I skipped the regedit instruction, as you suggested.

I followed your instruction #3, "Delete the HP ENVY 4520 series folder in the way" successfully.

I cannot follow your instruction #4, "Rename folder 3 in 3_old ".  An error message says "The action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program."  I can't find where the folder or a file in it is open.  Typing net stop spooler in the Run window has no effect.

Regards

Andy
