HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer

I have an old HP Envy 4520 that is still in excellent condition. The only issue is that it will not print in color in Word or from Internet, but WILL print color on the alignment page after I install a new color print cartridge. It only prints in blank in all other applications. I've checked all the settings and cannot find anything wrong. What can I do??? Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi @Mkbud1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Verify Printer Settings:

  • Open the printer settings in your printing application (such as Word or your web browser).
  • Make sure that the print option is set to color. Sometimes, it defaults to grayscale in specific applications.

Check Printer Driver:

  • Make sure you have the latest printer driver installed. You can download it from the HP Support website.
  • Reinstall the printer driver, as it could have been corrupted or incorrectly installed.

Set Default Printing Preferences:

  • Go to 'Devices and Printers' on your computer.
  • Right-click on your HP Envy 4520, and choose 'Printing Preferences'.
  • Ensure that 'Print in Color' is selected in the dropdown menu and not 'Print in Grayscale'.

Disable 'Print in Grayscale':

  • In your print settings, ensure that 'Print in Grayscale' is unchecked.

Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor Tool:

Software Application Settings:

  • Check the application settings from which you are attempting to print. Make sure it is not overriding printer settings to print in grayscale.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Verify if there are any firmware updates available for your HP Envy 4520. Sometimes updates can resolve compatibility and functionality issues.

Perform a Factory Reset:

  • As a last resort, it might be worth resetting the printer to its factory defaults and then reconfiguring settings as needed.I hope this helps.
