My Hp Envy 4520 won't print from my computer but it does scan from and to the computer. I have seen this same issue discussed elswhere for a diffrent model number. I tried the solutions offered there but have still had no luck.  Trouble shooter finds nothing wrong. I have uninstalled completely (as desrcribed in other posts) and reinstalled drivers several times.  I did at one point get it working again but the next day I was right back to the same problem.  The only  thing I have done that may have caused this problem is that I did do a large amount of printing (700 Pages) at which time I noticed that I wasn't getting any color from pages sent from my computer. At that time I had no problems. Soon after the problem began.

Yes I do have ink in the printer and I can copy documents (full color)that print out with no problem.

Can anyone give me some advice?

I have managed to get it working!!!!!!!!!!!!

The answer was to go to the Driver download page. and instead of installing the driver that is shown. Scroll down and install the  HPEPPrintAppSetupx64.exe

This installs and app that allows my desktop computer to act like a mobil device and prints through HP ePrint + JetAdvantage.  This has been the only solution I have been able to find and get to work sucessfully.

I hope this helps Others and All support personell

I do now get a message that askes for a pass Phrase. not sure what to do with that. I never set up a pass phrase

Hi @Raccoonrun,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues while printing from your HP Envy 4520 printer. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Could you please provide me with the Operating system installed on the PC? Is it Windows or Mac

How is the printer connected? USB/Wireless

Do you get any error message on the printer screen or on the computer screen?

Did you try to print from different applications?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Perform a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

If you’re running Windows, I would start by checking the installed printer software by downloading and running the HP Print and Scan Doctor. This tool can diagnose and fix many printing and printer software related issues. Please use this link to help you with that information: http://hp.care/2biN2XE

For Windows: Let's try to perform a clean install the printer software:

First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.

Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Deskjet printer entries and uninstall them.

Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.

Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.

Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.

Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

Restart your computer.

Now click on this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-4520-all-in-one-printer-series/5447920/drivers please select the Operating system and version of Windows before downloading and installing the latest printer software.

Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

For Mac: Try checking the ink level as suggested in my previous post.

-         Uninstall the old printer drivers first. Follow the steps mentioned here: http://hp.care/2cKwLyC

-         Now run the Apple Software Update. Check here for steps: http://hp.care/2cNgw3C

·         Restart your computer and printer.

·         Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.

·         Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.

·         Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.

·         Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.

·         Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.

·         Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list

-         Now click on this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-4520-all-in-one-printer-series/5447920/drivers and please select the Operating system and version of Windows before installing the printer software.

·         In the “Add printer” window, make sure you add the printer as mentioned below:

1.      Click the “Add button” (+).

2.      Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer.

3.      Click “Print Using...”, and then select the name of your printer (By default “Airprint” would be selected)

Restart the MAC once done and check for the issue resolution.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Eagerly waiting for your response!

I hope you have a good day ahead,

I am Running windows 10 on a Dell Computer. I ran the print doctor and the test print didn't work, but the internall test did print. I then went through the uninstall as you described and reinstalled the suggested driver. The printer still will not print a test page but does print the internal test page.

I would like to add that I am connecting wireless and when I send a new print page to the printer it doesn't show in the print que

Hi @Raccoonrun,

Thank you for replying,

I'm quiet not sure what do you mean by unable to print a test page but able to print a internal test page.

If you are able to print a test page as well as make a copy from the printer, this clearly means that the hardware part is working fine, this could be an issue with the drivers or settings.

I would suggest you assign a manual IP address and disable the IPv6 of the printer to get this issue fixed. Follow the steps below and check:

Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.

Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.

Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.

Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)

Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.

Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)

Restart the printer and router once done.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Good luck 🙂

Thanks for the IP adress change information. I will try that when I get time.

Let me clearify the internal print.  When I use the print doctor, I come to a point when it asks if I want to print a test page. That test page doesn't print. Then it says this is a Driver problem lets try printing an internal test page, that page prints. I am not sure what the difference is between the two. To me this does show that the computer is fully comuticating with the printer but the driver is flawed.

I have now noticed something else that may be a cause.

When I just now used the printer to scan a document the scaner I used is  HP ENVY 4520 series (net)

There is also one listed as  HPFECA7A (HP ENVY 4520 series)

The printer listed in my control panel (that I am printing to) is the later one   HPFECA7A (HP ENVY 4520 series)

The first one   HP ENVY 4520 series (net)     is not listed as a printer.

I have changed the IP address as you described and all seemed to go smothly. However the problem with not being able to print from my computer still persists.

I have also just rechecked the scanner. I am able to scan a document from the fax and scan app on my computer. So I am conected to the printer. Just seems that nothing is being accepted in the print que to be sent to the printer.  This is the only printer connected at this time and I make sure that the printer is listed as this one to send the document to, but for some reason it is not getting sent to it.

Is there a way I can revert back to a previous driver for this printer??  It had been working at one time
