HP LaserJet P4015
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello Community,

We still use an older HP model P4015 for our envelope printing needs.  Although this printer is out of support this is still the fastest retail printer we can find to pint all our envelope needs.  We print roughly 1,000-1,500 envelopes per day and using the envelope feeder and adjusting the fuser settings on the P4015 we can print envelopes at a very quick pace for our office.

One question we have is with the starting of a print job.  As I mentioned we have an envelope feeder attached to this printer.  When we send an envelope print job from our Windows 10 (MS Access) application the printer has a blinking light on it and waits for our staff to press the OK button.

1.  Is there a reason why the printer can't start printing automatically when our print job is sent to it?

2.  Is there a setting we can adjust on this printer so that we do not need to press the OK button.

Any advice you can provide us would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

2 possible causes

1- if the print job is sent as paper type envelope and that is not how you have the settings on the printer it will pause waiting for you to press OK, but I would expect you to see a message prompting paper type on the control panel.

2- settings on printer are corrupted, if it used to work this is possible and performing a cold reset may restore proper function.

Hello and thanks very much for this reply!

We have never had this printer work where it automatically prints our envelopes. We've always had to press the OK button.

I've asked our secretary to look at the printer and see if there are any messages on the screen before they pressed OK.  The message on the screen says:

Manually Feed 5.50 x 7.50 inches For help press?

So a bit of context here.  We print on an envelope size of 5.5" X 7.5 "  On our Windows 10 workstation  in the printer settings I have configured the envelope tray to use the 5.5"x7.5" size.

On the P4015 printer I can see in the Device Status window the Envelope Feeder has a size of 'Envelope Monarch' with a Type of Monarch.

It would appear that the printer is setup to accept a Monarch Envelope which I'm guessing has a size that doesn't match our 5.5"x7.5" envelope.

So is there a place in the P4015 settings where I can define the size of the Envelope Feeder envelope so that the printer will accept our 5.5"x7.5 envelope?

Secondly, I'm looking at the webpage our P4015 serves up and in the Settings > Paper Handling section I can see our Envelope feeder size uses 'Envelope Monarch' and our Envelope Feeder Type uses Envelope.  The dropdowns for Envelope Feeder Size allow me to choose a different Envelope as well as an option to choose 'Any Size'.  The Envelope Feeder Type allows me to choose many types besides Envelope as well as one that says 'Any Type'  Is this where I could choose Any Type and Any Size and my print will be accepted by the printer and not wait for OK to be pressed?

Thank you!
