HP LaserJet P4015x Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello Forum,

We have an HP P4015 Printer where we've added an Envelope Feeder  We use this printer only for envelopes (5.5 x 7.5 inches).  When we print to this printer from our Windows 10 computer we see the following messages on the printer control panel screen:

Question #1:

Load Tray 1 5.5 x 7.5 inches
To Use another tray press OK.

Question #2:

Use Envelope Feeder #10 to Use Press OK.

Please assist with how I set this printer to not ask us any questions and to automatically print to our Envelope Feeder.  We only use this printer for printing envelopes.  My aim is to not have to press the OK button twice before the print begins.

Thank you in advance for any advice you can provide me.

First you must ensure that the paper size and type settings on the printer itself for the envelope tray are correct being type envelope and size as you have stated.

Then on your driver you need to ensure that when you send a print job you are setting the driver to use the envelope tray  and again the size matches.

As well, in the tray settings on the printer itself, be sure to have the mp tray behavior set to prompt unless loaded.

Any mismatch in settings will result in the halt in printing you describe. This also assumes you are using an HP driver and not a Microsoft driver.

Hello Repairatrooper,

I very much appreciate your help with my support questions.  to clarify what you are saying though and to make sure I'm setting up my printer properly please review the following questions I have:

1.  When I login to the web interface of my P4015 printer I see on my Device Status page our Envelope Feeder as Tray #3.  I currently see Size as Envelope #10 and Type as Plain.  Is this where I need to specify the actual size of my envelope?  And what time should I select here?  When I look at my Paper handling dropdown list on Settings > Paper Handling I'm limited in the choices I have in the drop down list.

2.  How do I specify on my driver the settings I need?  I've configured on my Windows 10 computer in Printing Preferences > paper/Quality a new custom paper size to match our envelope.  Where else in my Printer Properties or how in my Printer Driver do I make the necessary settings to match my P4015 printer settings?

3.  I  have set on my printer to prompt unless loaded.

Thank you in advance for any further advice you can provide me.
