HP LaserJet 1018 Printer
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

My HP Laserjet 1018 works fine with my iMac because a friend set it up years ago - he made the 1018 think it was a 1022 - I don’t know how.

I now want to use my 1018 with a 2020 MacBook Air, which has no USB ports, only USB-C ports. So, I bought an adaptor to take the 1018’s USB printer cable - and plug into USB-C port.  But it just returns “offline”. Can someone advise?

Hi,

if the printer appears as Offline, it have nothing to do wit any driver installation, the printer status is only affected by the actual connection.

I suggest trying another USB cable first and ensure the cable isn't the fault, if it is still the same I would also suggest trying another USB-C to USB Adapter and check for any difference.

I haven't tried a second USP printer cable.

But I tried both of the USB to USB-C adapters that came in the package I bought on line. Both give me "offline".

It works now!

I just had to push the adapter a little further into the usb-c port! Thanks everyone!
