My computer is not recognizing HP LaserJet 1018 printer. Need help in getting my perfectly working printer hooked up to my laptop. Tried to install the driver software using the Wndows update but my printer is not recognized or the printer model is not one of the choice.

Hi @vankri
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I understand that you are not able to connect your printer to your computer, I am glad to assist you today.
- Connect printer via USB cable
- In Devices and Printers, LasetJet 1018 shows under Unspecified device section
- In Devices and Printers window, right click on LaserJet 1018 and select Properties in drop-down menu
- Select Hardware tab, make sure list points to Type: Software devices option and then click Properties button below
- In Properties General tab, click Change settings button in the lower left corner (don't miss this step as it opens up buttons that are otherwise greyed out in the Driver tab).
- In new Properties pop-up window, select Driver tab. Click Update Driver
- In Update Drivers window, select Search automatically for updated driver software. This should update the HP Laserjet 1018 driver and automatically move it from unspecified to printers section in Devices and Printers, which will allow printing
Check if firewall is blocking the printer, refer to this document: Firewall blocks driver install or printer functions (Windows)
check if you get printer offline message: HP printer is offline or not responding (Windows, macOS)
Hope this helps!
