HP LaserJet 1020 Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Laserjet 1020 suddenly quit working. Won't print. Power works, used new printer cable. Removed driver so I could re-install. Now cannot get driver to install!

@KekeWinkles, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Install the HP Smart app, open it, and add your printer by following on-screen instructions to start printing or scanning.

Download the HP LaserJet 1020 Driver:

Install the Driver:

  • Once downloaded, open the installer file and run it.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.

Check Printer Connection:

  • After installation, plug the printer back into the computer and power it on.
  • Ensure the printer is showing up in Control Panel > Devices and Printers.

Set Printer as Default (if not automatically set):

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on the HP LaserJet 1020 icon and select Set as Default Printer.

Print a Test Page:

  • Right-click the printer icon and select Printer Properties.
  • Click Print Test Page to confirm it's working.

Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from the HP website for troubleshooting

I hope these steps help resolve the issue

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
