Microsoft Windows 11

I have a brand new Hp system running windows 11.

I installed my HP Laser jet 1536 dnf mfp printer.

Printing works fine but when I scan a document I get msg's telling me it completed scanning page 1, page 2, page3 etc but when I look at the scanned file it consists of only the first page.

I tried to reinstall the printer from hp.com ..., the install got to 99% and I get "an install operation took too long to execute. This is a fatal error."

Any ideas anyone ??

Thanks,

Imre

Hi @mr_mr_cool ,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

It seems like there are two main issues with your HP LaserJet 1536dnf MFP: incomplete scanning of multi-page documents and installation errors when trying to reinstall the printer. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve these issues:

1. Fixing Scanning Issues: Multi-Page Scans Only Saving the First Page

The issue where only the first page is saved could be related to the scan settings or software. Follow these steps to troubleshoot:

Check Scan Settings:

Open HP Scan Software:

  • Open the HP Scan software or the HP Scan and Capture app if installed.

Check Document Settings:

  • Ensure that the scan type is set to a multi-page format like PDF or TIFF.
  • Verify that the "Save as Separate Files" option is not selected. This option, if enabled, saves each page as a separate file.

Use the HP Smart App:

  • If not already installed, download and use the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store to perform scans. The app is user-friendly and often resolves issues related to scanning multiple pages.

Try Scanning Using Windows Fax and Scan:

  • Go to Start > Windows Accessories > Windows Fax and Scan.
  • Select New Scan, set the format to PDF, and ensure that it is configured for multi-page scanning.

2. Troubleshooting Installation Errors: Installation Stuck at 99%

The installation error ("an install operation took too long to execute") suggests there might be conflicts or incomplete installations. Follow these steps:

Uninstall Previous Installations Completely:

Uninstall Existing Drivers:

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on your printer and select Remove device.
  • Open Device Manager > Print queues, and remove any entries related to your printer.

Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool. It can detect and resolve issues with the printer and scan drivers.

Remove Leftover Files:

  • Delete any HP-related folders in the following locations:
    • C:\Program Files\HP
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\HP
    • C:\ProgramData\HP
  • Clear the temporary files folder:
    • Press Win + R, type %temp%, and press Enter.
    • Delete all temporary files.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hi @mr_mr_cool,

Please find the remaining steps below.

Reinstall Printer Drivers:

Download the Latest Drivers:

  • Go to the HP Support website and search for the latest drivers for your HP LaserJet 1536dnf MFP that are compatible with Windows 11.

Run the Installer as Administrator:

  • Right-click on the downloaded installer and select Run as administrator. This can help avoid permission-related issues during installation.

Disable Antivirus/Firewall Temporarily:

  • Temporarily disable any third-party antivirus or firewall software that may interfere with the installation process.

Ensure Stable Internet Connection:

  • Make sure your internet connection is stable throughout the installation process, as some installations may require online resources.

3. Additional Steps if Installation Still Fails:

  • Clean Boot Windows:
    • Perform a clean boot of Windows to eliminate potential conflicts with other software:
      • Press Win + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
      • In the System Configuration window, go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, and then click Disable all.
      • Go to the Startup tab and click on Open Task Manager. Disable all startup items.
      • Restart your computer and try the installation again.

Following these steps should help resolve both the scanning issue and the installation error. If the problems persist, I recommend you contact phone support.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
