HP LaserJet 4300
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have my HP LaserJet 4300 set up as a network printer. I have used it with numerous PCs running all versions of Windows through Windows 7.

When I tried installing it automatically under Windows 10, the printer driver is not found. I assume it does not exist, so I used the generic "Microsoft PCL 6 class driver" instead. But this does not understand the print hardware, so I can't enable duplex printing.

When I tried installing it using the "HP Smart app" under Windows 10, but the printer is not located properly. I even supplied the correct IP address (10.0.0.15), and that did not work either.

I hope there is a way to get full functionality of the HP 4300 under Windows 10 ...

The solution is to download the universal print driver for Windows 10:

As suggested but with additional suggestion,  manually install the printer using a standard TCP/IP  port and use the Universal Printer Driver 6.8 (current revision) as the driver. Microsoft's Class drivers and use of WSD ports has created lots of problems for Windows 10 users trying to print, especially to older hardware.

The automated install of the HP universal printer driver did the trick for me, with no additional steps. It knew that I had the duplex hardware, but I had to select the option to use duplex printing manually.
