LaserJet P1102w
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

I have the same trouble described by everyone else in this earlier thread:  https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/HP-Printer-Drivers-MAC-Big-Sur-P1102w/m....  I have tried every recommendation in that thread except for getting an old driver from Gutenprint.   Nothing seems to work.   When I order any application to print to the P1102w, the Print Monitor window opens.  That window shows a thermometer showing the print job loading.  And then nothing.   The print job disappears from the Print Monitor window.

One oddity is that HP Smart sits there for half an hour at a time, spinning and spinning its circular arrows.   Half an hour is the limit of my patience.   HP Smart won't quit when I choose "Quit."   To get it to stop, I have to do a force-quit.

I have installed the 5.1 driver.  No change.

Twice I have had HP Easy Start uninstall the existing HP software.  No change.   Right now HP Easy Start presents the uninstalling option is available, so something is installed somewhere.   Not that it does any good.   Print Monitor still refuses to let the P1102w print.

Has anyone found anything other technique to restore the P1102w under OS 11.2.3?

Hi,

Try following the Resolution section below, I believe this should help:

My printer is not on the list of supported printers.  (It hasn't been for some years now.   I have had to use only a generic driver.)

The linked webpage also recommends downloading and running HP Smart.   I did so.  HP Smart has been running for a couple of hours now.   It is still trying to find the printer.

I do have this printer in my list of printers in the Printers & Scanners Preference.

I have the printer connected by USB.  I have asked HP Smart to find the printer wirelessly.   Yesterday I tried to get HP Smart to find the printer by USB.   HP Smart has not found the printer with either technique.

Your printer series is in the supported listed and therefore I provided these steps..

Please follow the steps and check, this should likely help...

Still no luck.  I have tried the Resolution webpage several times.   Once again this morning I visited that page.  I downloaded again HewlettPackardPrinterDrivers.pkg.   Again I got this response when I tried to open the package:

I tried two different techniques to open this package.   First I tried double-clicking the icon of the package.  Then I tried Control-click on the package.   I got the same dialog box about malicious software.

Note that my last post in this thread was two days ago.   I am pursuing the same inquiry on the Apple Support Fora.   Following a suggestion there, yesterday I downloaded HewlettPackardPrinterDrivers.dmg.   This dmg file opens.  In there I find HewlettPackardPrinterDrivers.pkg.

This file appears identical to the package that I downloaded from the Resolution webpage.  But this package opens to the Installer.   I ran the Installer.  The Installer reports that it installed whatever it was supposed to.  But no luck.

The Resolution webpage recommends using HP Uninstaller first.  This morning  I ran that program (again.)   I repeated the Installer again.   The P1102 does not appear as an available printer in the list of printers seen by my Printers & Scanners preference.
