Hello,

My HP LaserJet Pro M15a printer does not work on my iMac Mini M4. MacOS - Tahoe. I tried adding, removing, then adding again. Tried HP Easy Start, HP Easy Admin. Tried the original cable, tried another cable.
What happens each time, however, is the system recognizes the printer, adds it, even sends a job to the queue, however nothing gets printed.

The only driver available to select while adding the printer is HP LaserJet Series PCL 4/5.

I find it unacceptable really. It is a perfectly fine printer and now I should be buying a new one?

Hi @trickl,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can truly understand how disheartening it feels when your HP LaserJet Pro M15a, a perfectly capable printer, is recognized by your iMac Mini M4 running macOS 15 (Tahoe), yet refuses to print. It’s like watching a message get delivered but never read.

Let’s walk through the steps to resolve this issue and restore your printer’s voice.

Recommended Fixes

1. Use AirPrint (if supported)

HP recommends using AirPrint, Apple's built-in driverless printing system, for macOS. It often works better than generic drivers.

  • Remove the printer from Printers & Scanners.
  • Re-add it, but select “AirPrint” from the “Use” dropdown if available.
  • If AirPrint is not listed, try selecting “Secure AirPrint” or “Generic PostScript”.

2. Try HP Easy Start Again

Although you’ve tried it, HP Easy Start may still help if run with full permissions:

3. Check for macOS Updates

Sometimes macOS updates include new printer compatibility patches:

  • Go to System Settings → General → Software Update.
  • Install any available updates.

4. Try HP Easy Admin (Advanced Option)

HP Easy Admin is a newer tool for managing drivers on macOS. It may offer better compatibility with newer macOS versions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hello Vikram,
Thank You for your feedback. Unfortunately none of the proposed solutions work.

Reg. 1 - LaserJet Pro M15a is a USB only printer.
Reg. 2 - it is recognizing the printer correctly but is "unable to find software automatically"

Reg. 3 - My MacOS is up to date

Reg. 4 - The printer is available on the drop down list but as in point 2 - "unable to find software"...

Kind Regards,
