Hi everyone,
I’m having trouble getting my (new) HP MFP 3302fdwg to scan to my Windows 11 PC. The printer is connected via Wi-Fi and everything else (like printing) works fine. However, whenever I try to scan, it fails.
Here are the details:
Printer/Scanner: HP MFP 3302fdwg (connected via Wi-Fi)
Operating System: Windows 11
Software installed: “HP Scan - Full_Webpack-63.4.6169-SJ0001_Full_Webpack.exe”
Troubleshooting attempted:
Ran HP Print and Scan Doctor 5.7.4, which shows an error called “HP Twain Scan.”
Uninstalled the HP Scan software, restarted my PC, and reinstalled, as recommended by the Doctor.
The issue persists: scanning still doesn’t work.
Does anyone know what might be causing the “HP Twain Scan” error or have any suggestions for additional troubleshooting steps? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

@SvenS82, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
It sounds like you’ve been thorough with your troubleshooting so far. The “HP Twain Scan” error typically relates to communication issues between the scanner and your computer, and it can be caused by a few different factors.
Ensure the Printer and PC are on the Same Network:
- Double-check that both your HP MFP 3302fdwg printer and your PC are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Sometimes, network issues can cause scanning to fail.
Restart Printer and PC:
- It may sound simple but restarting both devices can resolve temporary communication glitches.
- Power off the printer, wait for a minute, and then turn it back on.
- Restart your PC as well.
Update Printer Drivers:
- Outdated drivers can cause scanning issues. You mentioned reinstalling the software, but it's also worth checking if there are any driver updates for the HP MFP 3302fdwg.
- Go to Device Manager on your PC (Win + X > Device Manager).
- Expand the Imaging Devices section.
- Right-click on the HP printer and select Update Driver.
- You can also visit the HP website and manually download the latest drivers for your printer and install them.
Check Windows Fax and Scan Settings:
- Windows Fax and Scan is sometimes an issue when scanning via network printers.
- Press Win + S, then type Windows Fax and Scan and open it.
- Try scanning from there to see if the problem is specific to HP Scan software or a more general issue.
- If scanning works with Windows Fax and Scan, it might be an issue with the HP Scan software or settings.
Run HP Scan and Print Doctor Again (with Admin Privileges):
- Sometimes running the HP Print and Scan Doctor with administrator privileges can help resolve issues.
- Right-click on HP Print and Scan Doctor and select Run as Administrator.
- Follow the prompts again and see if it identifies any new issues.
Disable Any Firewall or Antivirus Software Temporarily:
- Occasionally, firewalls or antivirus programs block scanning or printer communication.
- Temporarily disable your firewall/antivirus software and attempt scanning again.
- If it works, you’ll need to configure your firewall/antivirus to allow the printer’s scanning feature.
Check for Windows Updates:
- Ensure that your Windows 11 PC is fully updated as Microsoft may have released fixes that could resolve scanning issues.
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.
- Restart your PC if any updates are installed.
Reset the Printer Network Settings:
- Resetting the printer’s network settings might help fix the communication issue.
- On the printer control panel, navigate to Network Setup and reset the network settings.
- Reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.

Reinstall HP Scan Software:
- Sometimes the installation may get corrupted. Even though you’ve tried reinstalling, ensure you completely remove the software before reinstalling it again.
- Uninstall the HP Scan software from Settings > Apps > Apps & Features.
- Use the HP Uninstaller Tool to remove all HP software related to the printer (you can find this in the Start menu or the HP installation folder).
- Restart your PC.
- Download the latest HP Scan software from the HP website and reinstall it.
Check TWAIN Drivers:
- The “HP Twain Scan” error often happens due to missing or incompatible TWAIN drivers. You can manually reinstall the TWAIN driver or reset it:
- Go to Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager) and expand Imaging Devices.
- Right-click on the printer and select Uninstall Device.
- Restart your PC and allow Windows to reinstall the driver automatically.
Check Scanner Settings in HP Smart App:
- If you're using the HP Smart App, check the settings there:
- Open HP Smart from your Start menu.
- Click on your printer and navigate to the Scan section.
- Ensure that your settings match what you intend (for example, destination folder, scan type, etc.).
Check for Network Issues:
- Scan over the network may fail if there are network-related issues. Consider resetting your router or using a wired connection if possible to eliminate potential network interference.
Check HP Printer's Web Interface:
- Some HP printers allow you to manage scanning and network settings through the printer's web interface.
- Access the printer's IP address by printing a network configuration page from the printer’s menu.
- Enter the IP address in a web browser to access the printer's settings. From there, ensure the scanning functionality is enabled and properly configured.
I hope these steps help resolve the issue
