Hello
I have owned an HP OfficeJet 3833 Printer since 2019.
Today I have tried scanning a 600-bit scan to my computer, and after repeated occasions, it will not send the scan to my computer. I have tried several destination folders for my scan and it makes no difference.
The only significant change made to my setup, is that I have recently replaced an old, faulty D-Link USB Wireless dongle with a Realtek 8811cu Wireless Lan 802.11ac. I thought that it could have been a connectivity issue with this new dongle, so I reset my wireless connection. This was successful, but still, the image would not send to the computer.
Curiously, I tried saving the image as a PDF - this worked. Then I tried seeing if it would succeed by scanning it at a lower resolution of 300-bit, but when I reset this profile, the software would not even produce a preview image of the scan. So this has me fairly convinced that it is the HP software which is at fault.
Can anyone advise me on what to do? My operating system is Windows 7 32-bit. How do I go about reinstalling the software, or the drivers - if this is what is required?

SOLUTION DISCOVERED:
Hello,
I have found out what has been causing these issues in the software.
When I have been scanning an image and it is listed as a "DOCUMENT" under "Item Type", the issues mentioned in the original and previous post were occurring. However, when I selected the "Item Type" to "PHOTO", both 300 & 600 scans worked normally and saved without issue.
I have no idea why these problems take place when the Item Type is listed as "DOCUMENT" - perhaps it is something HP needs to work on. I even used a different computer to trial all these problems, and was encountering the exact same things, so it isn't an issue unique to my computer.
HP also needs to consider, for future reference, that their installers will not work for anyone using Windows-8 or lower, as Microsoft Edge WebView 2 is only compatible for Windows 10 or 11.

Hi @XAJackpot,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Scan to Computer Not Working on Windows 7!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Uninstall and Reinstall the HP Software
Since it appears to be a software issue, a clean reinstall should help.
Uninstall all HP software:
Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features
Uninstall all programs related to HP OfficeJet 3830 series
Restart your computer.
Download and reinstall the full driver/software package:
Go to the HP OfficeJet 3833 Software & Driver Downloads
Select Windows 7 (32-bit) as your OS
Download and install the Full Feature Software and Driver
Reconnect the Printer
During installation, choose the Wireless option.
Ensure your Realtek 8811cu dongle has a stable connection to your Wi-Fi.
Once setup completes, restart both printer and PC.
Enable Scan-to-Computer
Open the HP Printer Assistant (from your Start menu).
Click Scan > Manage Scan to Computer
Ensure the following are enabled:
Enable Scan to Computer
Automatically start Scan to Computer when I log on to Windows
Test the Scan Function
Try scanning a 300 DPI image first.
Save to both PDF and JPEG to see if format matters.
If it works, increase the resolution gradually to 600 DPI.
I hope this helps.

Hello Kuroi_Kenshi,
I have tried the following steps you recommended to make a clean uninstall & reinstall of my HP OfficeJet 3833 software and appear to be in an even bigger mess than before.
I uninstalled all the HP Software and downloaded the installer software on the website (compatible for Windows 7 32-bit). When installing, the software first attempted to install Microsoft Edge WebView 2 which was not on my computer before (I am curious as to why this software was not on my computer, when it is apparently essential for the HP Software to be installed in the first place).
Microsoft Edge WebView 2 would not install itself, as it said it was incompatible with my operating system.
Consequently, I tried a system restore on my computer (Dated 4 days ago), so I could "start from the beginning" so to speak and return to the already installed (but faulty) HP OfficeJet software.
When my computer rebooted, the desktop icon was there for the HP OfficeJet software, but it is now totally unusuable, full of script errors and all I get are the following messages (see screenshots):
Am I now to assume that this software has gone faulty beyond recognition? I simply do not know what to do from here.

So, a quick update. I managed to get a compatible HP OfficeJet 3833 software working again on my computer (not from the HP Website, curiously enough), consequently bypassing the need to install Microsoft Edge WebView 2. The software is up and functioning again. I can print and scan.
However, I am still facing the exact same problems as mentioned in my first post. These are:
1) When I scan at 300-DPI, the software does not give a preview screen and the option button to save the image is greyed out and cannot be pressed. (See the following screenshot)
2) When I scan at 600-DPI, I get both a preview image AND the ability to save it. The printer performs its rescan for the higher resolution, completes the scan, but no JPEG (or BMP, as I have also just attempted) gets saved.
3) When I perform a scan at 200-DPI however, it works normally.
There seems to be no apparent logic to the different behaviours in function. I cannot understand also why this issue has all of a sudden arisen, when it had been working perfectly for years before.
