HP OfficeJet 6950 All-in-One
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My printer prompted me to install a HP software update a week ago. It was working fine with my Desktop PC up to that point, and the HP update should have been routine but the installation failed to complete.

As a result, my Desktop PC using Windows10 64 bit OS was sending documents to the printer queue which were generating an error message.

I have tried various remedies, including the HP Print and Scan Doctor 5.5.2,  Troubleshoot HP Installation Failure – MSI software, removing the printer and reinstalling it and numerous other attempts to fix this. Many, many times.

The Print and Scan Doctor generates this error message:

HP software install 1 of 5 failed:

Call to DriverPackageUninstall returned error 5 for package ‘C:\WINDOWS\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\hpwia_oj6950.inf_amd64_a317cef8151c197e\hpwia_oj6950.inf’: A caller of DriverPackageInstall must be a member of the Administrators group to install a driver package.

I was advised to remove and reinstall the Microsoft IPP Class Driver, but windows is not reinstalling this. I now get this error message:

Windows encountered a problem installing the drivers for your device

Windows found drivers for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install them.

Microsoft IPP Class Driver

An error occurred during the installation of the device.

The driver cannot be installed because it is either not digitally signed or not signed in the appropriate manner. Contact your hardware vendor.

If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit their website and check the support section for drivers.

Everything was working perfectly until the printer update request was automatically generated for me.

Now I can’t print anything, and Windows 10 is unable to rectify this.

Can anyone please help me get my drivers and software update all properly installed and my printer working again?

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:

Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo

14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

15.) Restart the computer.

Once done, please download and install the software from here:

Thank you for your suggestion of a root uninstall and reinstall of the software.

This has not worked.

The printer is recognised as installed, but there is still an error generated when I try to print, including for a print test page option.

The test page is being held in a print queue, and the status displays as Error - Printing.

This is a software issue, as I can still manually print out a Printer Status Report directly from the printer touch menu screen.

Are you using the HP Smart App on your PC? If not, you may try and install to see if that works: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04675142. If yes, uninstall and reinstall it.
