I am getting an error that says "Remove the cartridges and check for leaks. If any cartridge are leaking contact HP Support"

I have gone as far as replacing the print head and the cartridges with genuine HP parts. Still have this error. It won't let me print.

@Eaglefeatherfcf, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If you receive the error message "Remove the cartridges and check for leaks" on your HP OfficeJet 7740 printer, follow these steps to resolve the issue:

Step 1: Check the cartridges for leaks

  • Open the cartridge access door:
    • Press the Power button to turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
    • Slip your fingers into the slot on the left side of the printer, and pull forward to open the cartridge access door.
    • The carriage will move to the left side of the printer. Wait until it is idle and silent before proceeding.

Open the cartridge access door

  • Remove the cartridges:
    • Press the front of the first cartridge to release it, and then pull it out of the carriage.

Press to release the cartridge

  • Inspect the cartridges for leaks:
    • Check each cartridge for leaking ink. Be careful not to get ink on your skin or clothing.
    • Replace any cartridges that are leaking. If the cartridge is not leaking, slide it back into its color-coded slot and gently push it forward until it clicks into place.

Insert the cartridge into its color-coded slot

  • Repeat:
    • Repeat these steps to check the other cartridges for leaking ink.
    • Close the cartridge access door.

Step 2: Reset the printer

  • Perform a reset:
    • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
    • Unplug the power cord from the power source.
    • Wait for 60 seconds.
    • Reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet and to the printer.

Step 3: Remove and then reinsert the printhead

  • Remove the printhead:
    • Open the cartridge access door and disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
    • Lift the carriage latch and remove the printhead by grasping its sides and gently lifting it out.

Lift the carriage latch

  • Reinsert the printhead:
    • Inspect the carriage path for any obstructions.
    • Insert the printhead back into its carriage, ensuring the electrical contacts face the inside.
    • Lower the carriage latch to secure the printhead properly.

Lower the carriage latch

Step 4: Clean the printhead

  • Use the automated tool:
    • On the printer control panel, touch Setup > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions and wait for the printhead cleaning sequence to complete.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
