HP OfficeJet Pro 8035 All-in-One Printer

I have been trying everything I possibly can think of based off of what I have found here on the community, but I have been unable to update the firmware on my printer. I have tried connecting via USB (still has my wireless connection available) and using the offline installer to using the HP Smart Windows application (which I cannot log into my account with anymore, it throws an error), to using the firmware update tool in the printer's web interface. I am getting tired of my printer trying to update the firmware, but is unable to. I go to the page for the updates and it says that there is a firmware update, but there isn't a place to download it.

I don't use a VPN

This is the outcome on my printer when attempting to update the firmware:

It does seem like it tries to download the firmware, but ends up like this everytime. Where can I just directly download the firmware and update the printer. I am getting really tired of it failing.

I get the exact same error messsage when trying to D/L the firmware.  Also scans have been very buggy lateley.  I hope the new firmware deals with this, and I hope there is a way to downlaod the update soon.  Anyone at HP have any solutions for us?

Same here... Tried to manually download the firmware, but web page won't let me.  First time since owning this printer in many years that this has happened.  (windows 11)

Hi @Appleapple13,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd like to help!

Let's try the following below

To disable automatic firmware updates from the Control Panel/ Front Panel, follow the instructions below:

  1. On the control panel/ front panel of the printer touch Setup or the Gear Icon
  2. Then scroll down to Printer Maintenance and select it. Then Scroll down to Update the Printer and select it.
  3. Under update the printer, select “Printer Update Options” and select the option “Do not check”. When asked to confirm the settings, please select Yes.

If you are unable to change the Printer Update options and if you are getting a message, this option is locked. Then you might have to restore factory defaults on the printer. To do so, please follow the instructions below:

  1. On the control panel/ front panel of the printer touch Setup or the Gear Icon
  2. Then scroll down to Printer Maintenance and select it. Then scroll down to Restore and select it.
  3. Then select Restore Factory defaults. When prompted to confirm the action, please select Yes.
  4. This will restore the printer to factory defaults and the printer will restart. Once the printer is restarted, On the control panel/ front panel of the printer touch Setup or the Gear Icon  .
  5. Then scroll down to Printer Maintenance and select it. Then Scroll down to Update the Printer and select it.
  6. Under update the printer, select “Printer Update Options” and select the option “Do not check”. When asked to confirm the settings, please select Yes.
  7. Then connect the printer back to the network.

To disable automatic updates from the EWS (Embedded Web Server) page of the printer, follow the instructions below:

  1. Open a browser and enter the IP address of the printer in the address bar.

Link for the document on how to find the IP address of the printer: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_6039801-6039767-16

  1. In the EWS page of the printer click on Tools Tab, then click on Printer Updates and click on “Firmware Updates”. Then select the option Do not check of Updates and click on Apply. Refer to the image below for the same.

2.If the option “Do not check of updates is disabled, then you will have to restore the factory defaults of the printer. To restore factory defaults on the printer, access the EWS page of the printer and click on the Settings Tab. Then click on Restore Defaults and click on “Restore Factory Defaults. Refer to the image below for the same.

  1. After restoring factory defaults, the printer will restart. Then you will have to connect the printer to the network. Once the printer is connected to the network, you access the EWS page and of the printer click on Tools Tab, then click on Printer Updates and click on “Firmware Updates”. Then select the option Do not check of Updates and click on Apply.

Note: This is a temporary workaround. Once we have a new firmware update available on HP.com you will have to follow the same steps and manually enable automatic firmware updates.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thank You for the time in the reply, but I have disabled the automatic updates from the HP SMART apk.  I still cannot download the firmware update...I disabled virus software...tried a second and a third browser...powered off and down the printer..but I cannot perform a manual firmware download.

We can’t turn off automatic updates bc you don’t let us with instant ink. I even reset the printer to factory settings to turn it off but then I couldn’t print anything until I connected back to instant ink which then locked in the update.

HP Recommended

I followed the instructions given to reset the printer also.  I was able to reset itto factory settings, but then I was unable to print or even copy anything because I was not signed in to instant ink.  I went online to HP support and that person accessed my computer remotely to help me get back on instant ink, but when doing so the printer was put back into auto update mode with no option to disable it.

That HP support person then switched me to another tech to try and get the firmware updates, and after spending over an hour on the phone with that support tech, he was unable to get the update or allow me to disable auto updates.  So after almost two hours I am right back where I started from with my printer displaying the "download unsuccessful" message.

Another support tech is supposed to call me back in 2 hours to try and sort this out, but I am not too hopeful at this point.

Does anyone jnow a good Epson or Canon printer to buy that will not subject me to this crap???

I have the same problem and with instant ink can't turn off the automatic download.  I start the download directly from the printer, it counts up to 100% downloaded, but then immediately says the download failed.  Trying from the web page fails as well.
