I was also able to download the update from the settings in the printer to 100%, but then it said that the update failed.  I think HP has an issue with the most recent firmware update.  I was on the phone with a tech from HP this afternoon for a solid hour and he was able to go into the app on my computer and change the settings so that the printer is not set to auto updates anymore and I can still use the printer and be connected when using HP instant ink.  This is a temporary fix since my printer will no longer be able to update firmware, but at least I don't get that annoying message anymore that I have to clear about the update failing.  I hope that HP straightens this issue, which seems to be effecting a lot of people, so that we can use our printers and update the firmware at the same time.  Come on HP get it together!!
