How do I update my HP Officjet 8620 firmware to an earlier verion?  The current update renedered my printer useless and I need to revert back to the previous version.

You have to roll back the firmware. There is a fix but HP won't be helping you with it. Took me about 30 minutes to piece it together and maybe 15 to implement then miraculously all of my "damaged" cartridges worked just fine. 

 

Start here and post your experience. Hopefully turning off the auto-updates keeps them from bricking your printer again.

Thank you Jimdish99.  The fix worked on my 8620.  It rolled back my firmware to 1416.  By the way my web services were already turned off as well as automatic updating and they still updated my firmware without my permission.  HP is busted!  Hopefully they will come clean and make it right or we all will just have to boycott HP and vote with our pocketbook.

I just successfully did this on a Mac if anyone's interested:

 

  1. Download the old firmware here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/12802613/Downgrade_firmware_Hp_OfficeJet_Pro_8620.zip
  2. Unzip that zip file
  3. Locate your printer's IP address -- in my case, I accessed it directly on the printer by clicking the network icon and voila.
  4. Open up Terminal and run the following commands:
$ cd <path>/<to>/<zip_directory>
$ nc -w 100 192.168.1.90 9100 < ojpro_8620_1416A_04152014_1.ful.rfu

 

This should take about a minute or so to transfer. Your printer screen should turn green and start counting. When it's done, it'll print out a report.

How do you do it i keep getting the same error  

 

 

-bash: syntax error near unexpected token `newline'

 

-bash: farad_base_pp1_FDP1CN1416AR_nbx_signed.ful: No such file or directory

 

-bash: -w: command not found

 

 can you help me??

You can google "netcat windows"; the download site should appear on the first or second position.

Thanks but I note this warning: "64-bit version hasn't been tested much - use at your own risk". Does someone tried on windows 10 64-bit?

I tried, but have not managed to upgrade my printer yet. For some reason it does nothing when I follow the procedure.
