Hello,
I have been struggling with this issue for quite a while now. I have an HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 that refuses to print correctly. This printer is installed as an IP printer on an internal file server. It is shared to users as a network printer. However, when you send jobs to this printer it will only eject the paper half way out of the printer, although it does print the page correctly. 30 seconds after the page is removed it will print two blank pages.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Hi @sholloway,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating issue! Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem with your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740.
- Check Paper Path: Ensure there are no paper jams or obstructions in the printer. Even small bits of paper can cause issues.
- Paper Type and Size: Make sure the paper being used matches the settings in the printer. If you're using custom sizes or thicker paper, try switching to standard paper to see if the problem persists.
- Firmware Update: Check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer. Sometimes updates can resolve bugs or improve functionality.
- Printer Driver: Ensure that the printer drivers on the file server and client machines are up to date. Reinstalling the driver may also help.
- Reset the Printer: Try performing a hard reset on the printer. Turn it off, unplug it for a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Network Connection: Since it’s shared over a network, check the network connection. Sometimes, poor connectivity can cause print jobs to be mishandled.
- Print Quality Settings: Check the print quality settings in the print dialog. Lowering the quality may sometimes help with ejection issues.
- Service Mode: If the problem continues, you might need to run a service or diagnostic mode if available, which can help clear any internal errors.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
