Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The printer is constantly trying to update over-the-air but it fails on 0% download.  I have looked into disabling the auto update, but this seems to not be possible because I have Instant Ink setup.  Any way to stop this?

Finally I have found the solution.

Download and install the HP software assistant.

This showed 3 updates waiting including an HP solutions (for IT professionals). I allowed all updates and about 20mins later the printer reported working with the latest firmware.

Beware some update windows are behind 'waiting' ones

Hi @Ian740374903

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I understand that you are facing an issue with your printer software, I am glad to assist you today.

I'd like to help!

Are you trying to update the Firmware directly from the printer control panel or are you downloading the Firmware from HP Website?

Please try downloading the Firmware from this link.

AntiVirus might block your Access to the EWS page.

Please disable the AntiVirus Temporarily and assign a Manual IP Address

- Print a Network Config Page from the printer. Note the printer's IP address.

- Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.

- Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.

- On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') to 250

- Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)

- Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway.

- Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS. This is Google DNS.

- Click 'Apply'. and close the page

Go back to the EWS Page again and try the update

Hope this helps!

This printer has updated ok in the past but not now.

All the network settings have remained the same.

Hard wired ethernet connection. fixed IP address outside the DHCP range subnet mask is correct 1st DNS address is the LAN DNS server IP address, the 2nd is Google (8.8.8.8).

I have tried downloading the latest firmware to my PC and it says it is up to date but the printer keeps trying to download updates and says  "The printer update could not be downloaded". I have to press OK to cancel. but a short time later it will do the same thing. I have also tried from the built in WEB Server and that fails too.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled HP Smart (twice) that didn't help.

Print Anywhere doesn't anymore either. I tried contacting HP but as the printer is outside its 1 year warranty they were not interested.

I am getting very annoyed with the lack of support from HP !

Hi @Ian740374903

Thank you for posting back.

I would suggest you please try these steps

We have to perform an Reset to unlock the features of the printer.

The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may brick the device.

I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.

In order to access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Community profile.

Please perform these steps and Feel free to reply to your public post for any further assistance.
