HP OfficeJet Pro 8130e All-in-One series, since replacing the original cartridge, have had to reinstall software but now even though the installation says complete, the printer is messaging me that the installation is incomplete. Wi-Fi connection. I have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. Initially purchased cartridges from Amazon, but the printer identified them as having altered chips. Returned and purchased from HP site.

Hello @nruffin3, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I understand why this is confusing the printer is connected to Wi-Fi, the HP software reports that installation is complete, yet the printer continues to show “Installation incomplete.” Since you have already reinstalled the software and replaced the previously rejected cartridges with genuine HP cartridges, the next step is to reset the printer's stored setup configuration and establish the connection again.

Reset the printer and complete setup again

1. Remove the printer from HP Smart

If the Officejet Pro 8130e is still listed in HP Smart, remove it from the app before starting the new setup.

This prevents HP Smart from continuing to use an old printer configuration while you establish a fresh connection.

2. Restore the printer to factory defaults

On the printer control panel, go to Menu > Tools or Settings > Maintenance / Printer Info, and select Restore All Factory Defaults (or use the Embedded Web Server via the printer's IP address).

3. Reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi

After the reset, put the Officejet Pro 8130e back into Wi-Fi setup mode and connect it to your normal wireless network.

If you use the HP Smart app for setup, keep your phone or computer connected to the same Wi-Fi network you want the printer to use.

4. Add the printer back to HP App

Open HP App, sign in to the same HP account associated with the printer, select Add Printer, and follow the setup prompts.

Allow the setup to finish completely before closing the app. This gives HP Smart an opportunity to establish the printer's local connection and complete the associated account/setup process.

If “Installation incomplete” still appears after the fresh setup, please provide the exact wording or error code shown on the printer's display and tell me whether the printer can print normally despite the message.
