I own this HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 since Januaru 2016. Last week my printer suddenly asked to be setup when powering it on. I have to set the Language, Region, Time etc. Then I got the message: "One or more cartridges appear to be damaged".

 

Changing all cartridges to new ones did not help, but I noticed that when I power the printer on without cartridges, and go through the setup, the message reads: "Install the cartridges that came with the printer".

 

This leads me to believe the printer is expecting the setup cartridges, which I of course do not have anymore.

I see that you do not have the setup ink cartridges. Let us perform an OOB reset on the printer to resolve this issue. 

  • The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
  • I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.

None of your messaged solutions seem to work 😞

 

Maybe something relevant: every time I start the printer I have to setup the date and time. I also tried changing the CMOS battery but that did not help.

That's unfortunate. In this case, please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region regarding the service/replacement options for your printer. 

Follow the instructions below to reach them:

 

1) Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp

2) Select your product type below.

3) Enter the serial of your device. 

4) Select the country from the drop-down. 

5) Select the chat or get phone number options based on your preferences. 

6) Fill out the webform and proceed further.

 

If you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty. If yes, you may use this link to find the phone number of the regional HP Support team: HP Phone Assist Worldwide
