I have had the same problem for several days, I solved it by addressing the firmware directly from my computer using the printers ip address. in my case i had set the ip address manually so that it is static. Select Settings at the top line, then scroll down to security and select administrative settings, scroll to the bottom where it says printer updates and unselect any checked boxes. This worked for me.

Hi DigitalManiac2, thanks for the reply. Went to 9025 printer, settings, finally found security but nothing showing "admin settings" it was only addressing 801.11 security issues. My printer's IP address is automatically assigned by the Xfininty router so I'm not familiar with process of "addressing the firmware directly from my computer using the printers ip address." Any other suggestions or process to implement the solution you found? My 9025 printer is constantly lookiing to update firmware which fails I have to click OK and it resets until a few minutes later the whole process starts all over again. Very frustrating.

Run the HP Smart application and choose "Printer Settings" which will take you to the embedded web GUI for the printer and then choose "SETTINGS" from the menu at the top.
On the left side click the + next to "Security" and choose "Administrator Settings"
Scroll all the way down to the bottom and uncheck both printer update boxes.

Hi TomAlv, cannot get the HP Smart App to run on my mac but was able to go through settings, preferences, printer and open the embedded web server for the 9020 series printer. Found setting then admin settings and scrolled all the way down to uncheck printer update boxes so that should stop my printer from constantly trying to update the firmware.
However, that does not address how to apply the firmware update that started this discussion. How have you done the firmware update and was it on a 9020 series printer?

Additional update: Again using the embedded Web Server, I went back to admin settings, turned Printer Updates back on, then went to Tools, pinter updates, it said there is an update available and did I want to proceed. I clicked yes and window appeared showing "downloading Updates" Status bar has not moved and 0% has been completed and its been over 5 minutes but no downloading. In early comment DigitalManiac2 said to "address the firmware directly from my computer using the printers ip address." I do not know how to accomplish that task. Assistance would be appreciated. PS: still 0% downloaded for firmware update.

Hi DigitalManiac2, that makes me really curious as to why my 9025 printer thinks there is a newer firmware download???
When I was able to connect to the printer via the Web embedded server and went to the printer update. I clicked the "check for updates" it replied there was an update. It asked if I wanted to download and I clicked YES. That started a ZERO % download, essentially the computer browser froze and I had to close the browser to still be able to use mac. Via the web server I was able to download 100% or so it said but then error messge said download failed, retry or exit. That's the same error I've been having now for two days. I've since via Web server, Admin settings turned off Printer UPDATES to stop the bogus update from locking out the printer as I still have work to get done. I hope HP is monitoring this and working on a solution. Cannot believe there is only 3-4 of us having this problem.

Thank you so much! This is definitely an instant ink issue - Ive used instant ink for years and it keeps telling me one of my cartidges is not, then wheh I log on to the instant ink service that tells me all cartidges are genuine. I was able to disable the automatic updates though thanks to you.
