HP OfficeJet Pro 9120e All-in-One Printer

A couple of days ago I bought a new HP OfficeJet pro 9120e printer, during setup I opted for using HP+ without Instant Ink. As soon as I registered the HP+ it is saying I need to replace the cartridges, even though the SETUP cartridges are still full and actually only printed one test page. Is there a way to be able to use the SETUP cartridges or are they bricked by HP+.

Thanks

Welcome to the HP English Community --

I do not know what happened.

I, too, purchased a new eligible printer (months ago), signed up for HP+, and did NOT accept the Instant Ink trial.

Nothing bad happened - HP+ switched on, No ink trial, and I was able to continue using my installed ink cartridges.

Admittedly, I'm on the other side of the planet -- different rules??

So - ??

I've sent a message to our Moderators to explain your concern and ask for help.

Thanks Dragon-Fur, I have since registered for Instant Ink trial to see if that helped, but no, Instant Ink page says cartridges are good no need for replacement, but Printer and HP Smart both say cartridges need to be replaced.

You are welcome.

OK - choices.

Now that you have added Instant Ink, the cartridges would normally be activated as part of the subscription are tied to the Instant Ink trial / subscription.

Should you cancel, even immediately, the cartridges would not work outside of the trial / subscription.

Yes, I realize the cartridges don't work now --

Regardless, adding the cartridges to Instant Ink mean they would not work outside of the subscription anyway.

Yes, it is a critical detail that can be missed during the rush to subscribe.

What to do?

Not sure what you want to do -- adding the subscription does change things as I understand them.

Perhaps contact Instant Ink Support in your region.

They likely cannot (would not) help you with the installed cartridges added to the service --

If you wish to do so, you might be able to extricate yourself from the Trial and subscription.

??

I suggest you read a bit about what the service includes and how the subscription works.

The "free trial" is a set period during which you are not charged the monthly fee for your plan.

True, should you go over your plan page limit, you are charged per set for "X" sets of pages as used.

Ink is included at no extra charge - this is true regardless of the plan you select.

10 pages or 700 pages - Ink is included as part of the plan.

Reminder

HP Instant Ink service is a legal contract --

There are obligations and responsibilities for both HP and you, the customer.

What is an Instant Ink Promotion / Trial ?

The offer is generally for a one month or longer trial to HP Instant Ink subscription service.

To get the trial, you must sign up, select a plan, and commit to the print-by-page subscription model.

An HP Instant Ink subscription is a contact for service - ink is included in that service.

The trial is a suspension of the monthly plan costs during the trial period.

The printer must be connected to the Internet (Web Services) during the Trial and for the duration of the contract.  Connection is used by service to monitor plan usage status and by the printer to request ink.

What is "Free Ink"?

There is no extra cost for ink.

Ink is provided as part of your subscription - use a drop or use a cup full, ink is included at no extra cost.

Important

After the initial Ink Kit is mailed out, ink is sent (only) when the printer notifies the service that ink is depleted and a shipment is needed.

  • All ink activated by the plan and all ink sent to you works as along as the trail / subscription service is active.

and

  • Subscription / Instant Ink remains the property of HP and should be returned to HP at close (termination) of the service contract.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Who Benefits?

Instant Ink is an excellent service for those who print regularly, print high-density documents or artwork, or perhaps print lots of homework.  For example, those who benefit the most include Teachers, musicians, writers who like hard copy, large families, small business offices, community centers, churches, and others who love -- or need -- to print on paper.

It is important that you understand the Instant Ink cancellation / termination process and your responsibilities.

It's hard to stop digging -- we all want quick solutions.

Smiling.

I've sent another message to our Moderators to ask for help.

It still might be faster (for you) to contact Instant Ink Support --

Decide whether you want the trial and be ready to "dig in" and stick to what you want.

It can be fixed, though, I do think you need to talk to an agent before you move forward.

Good Luck.
