Refering to https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/HP-OfficeJet-Pro-9730e-doesn-t-have-all.... If the final answer is that this printer cannot support A3 photo paper in Tray 2, please advise. All other suggested "fixes" have been attempted, similar to the OP.

@PatB_11, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e is a dual-tray printer that supports up to A3 size paper.
Tray 1 is designed for special media types, including photo paper, envelopes, and labels.
Tray 2 is primarily intended for plain and general office paper. Its media support is more limited.
Limitation on Tray 2:
Yes, Tray 2 does NOT support photo paper types like A3 photo paper.
Even if A3 paper fits physically in Tray 2, the firmware does not allow selection of A3 Photo Paper in that tray. The print driver and printer panel are programmed to restrict this based on media compatibility and paper path mechanics.
Workaround:
If you must print A3 photo paper, you’ll need to:
- Load the A3 photo paper in Tray 1, even if it's only one sheet at a time.
- Manually select Tray 1 and choose the correct paper type from the driver or printer panel.
If the paper is too large or doesn't fit Tray 1 physically, unfortunately, this model cannot accommodate your request through standard or supported means.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
