Hi, I got my parents a Mac mini computer, but have bot been able to get their wired HP Officejet 2620 to work with it. It says online it should be compatible with ios18.
I’ve read all the pertinent comments from previous users with this same problem but haven’t been able to find a solution.
-I’ve tried repeatedly to install easy start and the drivers, but it gets to the printer page, and then the printer screen says “now printing” but nothing happens.
-printer is plugged into usb port and is recognized, but won’t print. I’ve done the delete printer/ re-install printer on the Mac, re-start printer and computer, etc. nothing has worked.
I have the generic Mac drivers chosen since when I click on “switch to HP drivers” at the end of the easy start, I get an error message saying “cannot configure device software “. I’ve tried using the other drivers (HP laser jet etc) just to see if that would work, but it doesn’t.
I get this message over and over again, not sure if that’s why it’s not working (photos included). I re-install and it seems to be installed but then nothing happens. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you!

@GGreens, Thanks so much for the detailed follow-up — really appreciate the effort you’ve already put in.
It does sound like the root of the issue is that persistent “Cannot Configure the Device Software” error when trying to switch to the HP driver after using Easy Start. This can happen sometimes if the installer doesn’t have the right permissions or if there’s a software conflict on macOS.
Here are a few quick steps that might help move things forward:
1. Try a Full Removal and Reinstall (Manual Method):
Unplug the printer.
Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, remove the printer.
Then, go to /Library/Printers/ and delete the HP folder.6
Also check /Library/Printer/PPDs/Contents/Resources/ and remove any HP OfficeJet-related files.
Restart your Mac.
2. Reinstall Using Apple’s Built-in Drivers:
Plug the printer back in via USB.
When prompted to install software, allow the Mac to use its built-in driver — sometimes this works more reliably than HP Easy Start for older models.
3. Check Security & Privacy Settings:
Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General, and see if there's a message about blocking HP software. If there is, click "Allow."
If none of this works, let me know — we can try an alternative driver or escalate it further.
You're doing everything right — just a few more steps and hopefully we’ll get it printing again!

@GGreens, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP Officejet 2620 Compatibility with Mac!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
If you're encountering issues with getting your HP Officejet 2620 to work with a Mac Mini, here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
Check Connection:
- Ensure that the printer is properly connected to the Mac Mini via USB or network and that it is powered on.
Driver Installation:
- Make sure that the correct drivers for the HP Officejet 2620 are installed. You can download the latest drivers from the HP Support website.
Use HP Easy Start:
- HP Easy Start is a guided installation application to help you set up your printer. If you haven’t been able to install it successfully, try downloading the latest version from the HP website and follow the instructions to install the printer.
Software Update:
- Ensure that your Mac's operating system is up to date. Sometimes compatibility issues can be resolved with the latest updates from Apple.
Printer Reset:
- Reset the printer to eliminate any potential issues by turning it off, unplugging it from the power source, waiting for 60 seconds, and then plugging it back in and turning it on.
Print Queue:
- Check the print queue on your Mac to see if jobs are stuck or paused. Clear the queue and try printing again.
Re-add Printer:
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, delete the existing HP Officejet 2620 printer entry, and then click the "+" button to add it again.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!

thank you for the response, I have tried all those solutions but it has not worked. The connection via usb is solid, the mac OS is up to date, print queue is clear, I did re-start printer, and add printer (I tried both the HP Officejet 2620 and HP Officejet 2620 FAX to see if maybe one of them would work, but it did not).
I have tried repeatedly to do the driver installation via HP easy start, and everything seems to have finished installation fine but then I am presented with the option of 'use your current driver' or 'switch to HP driver' and when I click on switch to HP, I get an error message "Cannot Configure the Device Software". this happens over and over, seems to be the reason of the problem.
