HP Officejet 4630 e-All-in-One
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

So I had to reinstall windows from scratch.... that was annoying. I had windows 10 upgraded from windows 8.1. I had the HP Officejet 4630 installed with software and that worked fine before I started the reset. After the reset the all in one installation package refused point blank to find my printer. I trawled the forums for a fix.... I didn't find one but managed to jerry rig my own.... sort of.

I finally got some print capabilities by;

Open Printers and Scanners

Click Add a printer or scanner

Ignore the Printer 'HP-Officejet-46 (HP Officejet 4630 series)'

Wait and click the 'The printer that I want isn't listed' link

Select 'Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings and click next

Select 'Create a new port' and select 'Standard TCP/IP Port'

Type in the IP address of my printer and name in appropriate boxes and click next

Scroll down to HP in the left and select, then scroll down to and select 'HP Officejet 4630 Series Class Driver' on the right and click next

Follow the prompts until done.

That gave me a working printer and scanner - sort of.... if you squint....

HOWEVER THAT IS LIMITED - PLEASE CONTINUE TO READ!

I still don't have the software from HP installed so that I could get scan to computer running or get any of the other functionaity up and working.

When I download the all in one software and try and use it to install the software it fails at finding the printer. I've tried every combination I can think of and none of them work.

The 'Troubleshoot HP Installation Failure - MSI' software thinks that all I'm missing is the actual software - BUT IT WON'T INSTALL! as it won't find the correct printer driver to install first. It can find the Printer perfectly fine, it just refuses point blank to actually install the driver for it.

Please help? Please?

I finally, Finally figured out how to get my printer to install in Windows 10. And let me tell you, I was so very very frustrated at the Windows 10 system layout I'm almost tempted to ditch Windows....

Anywho on with how I fixed it.

After numerous attempts at getting this thing to install and following pretty much every guide out there on these forums on how to get the HP software to behave, I went to this thread: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Inkjet-Printing/driver-will-not-install-windows-10/td-p/5241754

Before you get your hopes up too far, that too failed!

However! After that, I went through the uninstall portion of that fix again, also uninstalling anything else from HP. Then when I thought I'd got it all, I double and triple checked. Restarted the system and using the new Administrator login I did something different.

As people who use Windows 10 likely know already, going to Start and typing in Printers in the search box brings up 'Printers & Scanners'. This seems to be where the newer software devs over at Microsoft want you to install Printers and Scanners. I'll give you a helpful hint and then tell you outright. There's a reason that the Control Panel's 'Devices and Printers' page still has an 'Add a printer' button.

Using that button in 'Devices and Printers' the only one it found was the correct 'HP Officejet 4630 Series'. After that installed I left that the #### alone and tried the install package Again.... to my immense surprise and relief it worked.... the ruddy thing actually installed and let me set up the scan to pc and fax and everything else.

Why the bleeping bleep the thing refuses to find the correct printer through 'Printers & Scanners' I have no idea or why the software refuses to install correctly in a totally fresh install of Windows 10 without installing the drivers first through the above mentioned steps I am equally baffled about.

Needless to say I thought I'd post here so that anyone else out there getting equally annoyed with HP and their large paperweight can actually get back to the important things in life.

Hi Tutor. I tried your method and got the printer to work. The full software doesn't install but if you go to printers and devices  and click on the printer icon there is an app loaded that lets you use the scanner.

Amazing! Your routine worked for me, too. I recently had to Reset Windows 10, and then was unable to install my HP Officejet 4635 all-in-one printer. Same problem as many others have reported, the HP software simply failed to installed. So I tried your fix with Control Panel--Devices and Printers--Add a Printer. And that worked for the basic setup of the printer. Then I simply ran the full HP software and this time it worked perfectly. So thank you for finding this solution and also for posting it.  I wonder if HP is paying attention....!

I was having the same issue but it was my Bitdefender Firewall blocking the HP software communication with the printer. I solved the issue by going into "Bitdefender Firewall Rules" and where it say's "Windows Explorer Traffic on HTTP" you must change it to "Allow" because it's set to "Deny" by default.

Once you do that the printer software will communicate with the printer and finish the install.
