I finally got my Officejert4650 to work by adding the printer manually.  I aslo had to change the ip on the printer to "static".  The program adds the printer and assigns the printer port which is usually the IP plus port like 10.1.1.1.5_1     I do not use the duplex feature so I don't know that feature works.  For the last two weeks it has been working great.

This work around resolves it - quick once I knew what to do - thank you for highlighting this fix.

 

I had the exact same issues (with colour, duplex and stable settings) and spent 4 hours following all the HP guidance uninstalling & reinstalling to no avail.

It is ridiculous that it took this unintuitive solution, buried deep within a user generated post, and all that time to fix this.

 

Will think twice about an HP printer next time.
