My printer keeps trying to upgrade the internal firmware, but the download fails and the printer also loses the wi-fi network connection. I have also tried to update the firmware through the HP Smart app on my phone and PC. Same result! HP just replaced this printer because the last one had the same problem! I spent hours on the phone with their tech support people with the first printer before they sent this one to me.
Every time the printer attempts to update, it just says "Downloading 00%" and then gives the message "Download Unsuccessful: The download was unsuccessful . Touch retry to start the download again. Touch "OK" to exit.
I then need to setup the wi-fi connection on the printer again! But, it keeps trying to download the firmware again shortly thereafter. Really frustrating! Can anyone help me solve this problem?

Hi Terry,

Please try updating the firmware by following below update utility from your computer and check for any difference:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/dj5200_2102B/DJ5200_2102B.exe

May you able to complete the update using this method?

If it fails, please print and evaluate a Wireless Test Report, although these steps are intended for another model, the same steps applies for your printer model too:

https://support.hp.com/hr-en/document/c04707093

Can you see any Attention or Warning listed on its top? I doubt the problem relies with two printers, but with the connectivity uses for both.

Please let me know the results,

Shlomi

The printer update utility does not find my printer, but it is online and working.

The Wireless Network Report looks good. No problems detected and the network configuration page also looks good.

I finally got the printer update utility to recognize my printer, but the update failed with that utility as well!

These problems are identical to the problems I had with the printer that HP replaced under warranty.

The printer "forgets" the wi-fi network credentials every time it restarts, and it is unable to connect to the wi-fi network. So, I need to reconnect the printer to the network manually again in order to print anything. Really frustrating!

After the automatic firmware update failed again, I was going to try connecting the printer via a USB cable to perform the update from my PC.

I plugged the cable into the printer, but not into my PC. (Not yet connected)

I also reconnected the printer to my wi-fi network. But, this time I entered the wifi password directly on the printer LCD panel rather than connecting via WPS.

While I was reviewing some other information on my PC, the printer apparently performed another automatic download of the firmware, and the download was successful! I have no idea why!

1) USB connect to printer, but nothing else ....?????

2) Wifi password entered directly from printer panel instead of using WPS???

Who knows?
