Hi @knarf
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP OfficeJet 8600 is not showing up on your new laptop, here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow:
1. Check Connections
- Wired Connection: If you’re using a USB connection, ensure the cable is securely connected to both the printer and the laptop. Try a different USB port or cable if available.
- Wireless Connection: Make sure your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your laptop. You can check this from the printer's control panel under the network settings.
2. Install HP Smart App
- Download the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store or HP’s website. This app can help with printer setup and will detect your printer automatically if it's on the same network.
3. Add Printer Manually
- Windows Settings:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
- Click on Add a printer or scanner. If your printer doesn’t show up, wait a moment and click on The printer that I want isn’t listed.
- Follow the prompts to add it manually, selecting the appropriate connection type.
4. Update Drivers
- Visit the HP support website and download the latest drivers for the OfficeJet 8600. Install them on your laptop and see if the printer appears.
5. Check Printer Status
- Ensure the printer is powered on and not displaying any error messages. Make sure there are no paper jams or issues with the ink cartridges.
6. Restart Devices
- Restart both your laptop and the printer. This can help refresh the connection.
7. Firewall and Security Software
- Sometimes, security software or firewalls can block printer detection. Temporarily disable any firewalls or antivirus programs to see if that resolves the issue.
8. Check Network Settings
- Make sure your laptop’s Wi-Fi is enabled and functioning properly. Try connecting to the network using another device to confirm that the network is operational.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
