Apologies for jumping in unannounced.
HP will not intervene here .
HP does not typically release printer repair manuals to other than licensed repair technicians and HP partners.
Too, we are not HP Support -- we are a Peer-to-Peer user forum.
We cannot provide information here that is not meant to be made public.
Reference: Rules of Participation
This is particularly true of inkjet models - HP does not consider these to be "repair at home" devices.
The user guide and other documents that HP makes public are available at the printer's support website.
So - what to do?
The repair manual might be posted on the Internet.
Should not be, but - you know - there is all kinds of stuff on the 'net.
Use caution when looking at and / or downloading documents or other resources found out in the wild.
What?
Not everything you find on the Internet is true, safe, or useful.
In particular, be wary of websites that want any private information from you, such might be Rats.
========================================
What else?
In general, tools and documents released to licensed techs and HP partners are not meant to be shared publicly.
That said,
A licensed (or not) repair technician might share a service document with you.
Not everyone follows the rules.

HP is very stingy about repairs with inkjet printers. They don’t offer parts for this and at least one authorized service place said HP is not even permitting them to distribute service manuals. Very disappointing. Perhaps I need to turn to another brand next time I purchase a printer. Can anyone share with me a clear picture of the timing pulleys connected directly to the motor on the ADF? I’m trying to reassemble.

I managed to take apart the scanner and put it back together without a complete demonstration video. It was a challenge. I don’t know how I could work in a repair shop. Deadlines, incomplete instructions for disassembly, and maybe some inexperience digging into these machines can altogether be a recipe for disaster. Anything that makes you feel rushed or stressed can result in something getting broken or done incorrectly. Perhaps I could share some tips somewhere for how to wing a dissassembly.
I fixed the original thing that was wrong with my printer. Replacing the glass bed. Not everyday you see a glass bed replacement available for sale for this model. Had to jump on that. I think I will post a new thread about the issue I am having now. Perhaps a demonstration for how to disassemble the scanner.
Thank you for your insights. We may not have the support of corporate for inket or officejet after warranty, but we have each other as best we can,
This youtube user, I think he’s Korean per his language, made a very helpful vid about how to generally take the 8740 apart. I’ve had to wing it with the scanner part on my own. Patience. Gentleness. Don’t do anything with brute force. Gotta identify and follow the chain of command that each part has over access to others,
