Hi, this looked like the answer I was looking for. Er no!! Did factory reset on printer, then had problem with Instant Ink not recognising the cartridges so couldn't complete setup, but eventually managed to get round that (don't ask me how) and Instant Ink was ok. Clicked for don't update automatically as part of the setup to stop the utomatic updating. Sorry to keep you all in suspense but ........ the problem is still the same with the update not being able to install click ok or Retry. What a waste of my valuable time. Come on HP get somebody to come up with a proper fix.

I'm trying this on 17 May, so let's see if it works. Already done the reset, just monitoring to see if it goes back into update mode or not. but at least I was able to turn off automatic updates. thanks for that!

Just to say, guys. I have had a message pop up once saying there is a download update please click to download. That's it notifying me before downloading. However, this is the corrupt download and failed again. I cancelled it and hasn't happened again.

Just spent an hour going round and round with a customer support agent culminating in a request to restore the factory settings to which I said "no way" given the experience of others on here. They didn't have a good grasp of English and I'm pretty sure they don't understand the problem and there is no indication that HP are aware or working on any fix. Looks like this could go on for a long time.

Totally agree with Bopster2023. The press has reported that HP have been updated firmware so that their printers only work with HP cartridges. Unintended consequences perhaps? Come on HP - you can do it. Fix this!!
