I just updated my printer to firmware MALBECPP1N001.2314A.00 after downloading it from the HP website.

I did the update wirelessly from my Mac and all is well.

Even though the printer said it was now updated, I still did a check from the printer menu and I was pleased to see it had the latest firmware… phew

Eureka it's now back working.  Firstly I had to re-install the driver, that worked perfectly 1st time and as for instant ink a call to their support team 02076606027 delivered the goods, they talked me through how to re-enroll the printer and we're now back.

Thanks to all for sharing your tips - shame HP were so silent!!!

I was unable to fix based on what you suggested

I also tried switching of the auto update but that was not possible to do

Hi @Raj2111 - I have the same issue. Have tried to download via printer directly (it got to 100% progress then gave me the same message 'can't download etc...)

Trying from the HP app it only got to 8%.

Any other thoughts? Thank you

Unfortunately for people with IPads / iPad Pro’s the update route suggested previously does not work, if you follow the link to the HP a update page as it’s set for windows based PC’s.

@stepsie how did you manage the update from a Mac? I’ve been trying to do it from my iPad Pro and it refuses as it’s a windows file.

I went to www.hp.com and selected support / drivers / printers

try the link below, it auto detects what OS you are using, but you can change it to whatever OS you like.

https://support.hp.com/gb-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-officejet-pro-8020e-all-in-one-printer-series/38...

it will also give you the option to download the iOS support App, but I didn’t use that.

Good luck

Is there a way to update the firmware without using the HP App at all? My laptop is through work and due to the level of security on it it wont allow unauthorised apps to be installed, which is a reason why I purchased the printer because of it wireless functionality!

This firmware update issue has been going on too long. HP have the ability to push updates directly to printers without the need for operator intervention, surely they can do this with the new firmware?!

Sorry getting a bit peed off with it....
