The HP app on my phone did not work for me. It would find that an update was needed, the printer would reboot to firmware update mode, download an update then fail. Today I successfully updated the firmware using the Mac firmware updater (April 5 update for the OfficeJet 8024). I would be SOL if we didn't have the Mac as we've no Windows machines.

Hi @DarrenG2,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Please follow the steps listed below to uninstall and reinstall HP App:
Step 1: Uninstall HP App.
1. Navigate to and open Settings
2. Select Apps or Application Manager from the device Settings
3. Select HP App
4. Select Uninstall
Step 2: Reinstall HP App.
1. Download the HP app from 123.hp.com (Android, Apple iOS, iPad OS),
or HP App- Microsoft Store (Windows),
or HP App- Mac App Store (Mac).
2. Open the HP app.
3. The app searches for recently installed printers.
- If your printer displays, click it. If you are setting up a new printer, it might display with Set-Up under the name.
- If your printer does not display, click the Plus sign, and then follow the on-screen prompts to add your printer or set up the printer.

YES!
The solution is page 7.
Download the new firmware on the link given by Thescouselander page 7 and run it on Windows.
Select the firmware and push button Upgrade.
The new firmware will be uploaded on your printer, and upgraded.
The printer will reboot and say that the last firmware is now installed.
You can check in HP Smart the good version: MALBECPP1N001.2314A.0 of 2023-04-05
Thanks to all the contributor!

I have the same problem, printer is stuck in an infinite loop, constantly going off-line due to this failed update mess.
Looks like the macOS app fails in a similar way, freezes forever at 0% downloaded.
Given we are at page 9 now, is it time that HP publishes an apology and the correct instructions for all users on all operating systems to manually patch this flaw - and have that tagged as the correct answer? Or should users keep grovelling through all the pages on this forum to find instruction that may or may not work?

Turns out there was an easy fix but it took me a LONG time to get to it.
Eventually I got through to someone at HP Support UK (not sure where you are?) and he talked me through removing then reinstalling web services via the HP app on my Mac. All very easy - just a matter of finding it all in the advanced settings.
After that - no problem at all. Took about 5 or 10 mins.
Why oh why no one has flagged this here I cannot say! Good luck

Interesting, I just spoke to HP support and they told me how to get to the firmware update settings in the printer menu and then remove the tick from 'auto update' - so not 'fixed' the issue just stopped it from happening.
I was then told that HP are working on a fix and I'll be notified when to turn the 'auto update' back on again.
