I purchased a new printhead (old one failed) and didn’t use the setup cartridges during install now the printhead won’t operate. Is there a way to reset the printer and force it to install the new printhead using the setup cartridges?
Also, I have a friend with an HP OJP 8600 - could I use his printhead to reset my printer or use his printer to activate the new printhead without bricking his printer or printhead?
(macOS 12.1 Monterey)

We could override the "use setup cartridge error" on the printer with your new printhead.
I would recommend not switching the printhead between the two printers, the data is stored on the printhead but could be restored using the printer.
- The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.

Hi @PEROSE123,
I'd like to help!
I understand you are unable to initialize the new printhead.
As the printer models belong to the same series you could try using each other's printhead without an issue.
To assist better -
Could you share the exact error you receive when you try and install the new printhead?
Keep me posted.

Hopefully I can add a bit more clarity:
1) My printer gave and error: "Missing or Failed Printhead, The printhead appears to be missing, not detected, or incorrectly installed. Error Code: 0xc19a0003"
2) I purchased a new printhead and failed to use the provided setup cartridges when installing and initializing the new printhead instead using the existing "regular" cartridges from the old printhead. The new printhead ran through the setup procedure with the "regular" cartridges and now fails to print. I then noticed a note on the new printhead packing material that stated, "Attention: Setup cartridges must be used or printhead will not work."
Question:
1) Is there a way to force the printer to reinitialize the new printhead and use the setup cartridges to properly install it? (most desirable solution)
2) Which component stores the printhead initialization data? The printer or printhead?
3) If data is stored in the printer, would using another (friends) printhead force the data to be overwritten by the data for friends printhead without compromising the friends printhead? If so the plan would be to return the friends printhead to their existing printer and proceed with installing the new printhead using setup cartridges in my printer.
Thanks!
PS - if this isn't possible I will try to return the new printhead and setup cartridges to the vendor but I'd like to avoid that scenario.
