Hi @Eric649,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd like to help!
I understand that, During a printer firmware update, a printer update could not be downloaded message error displays.
Perform a printer reset, and then download the printer firmware again.
Reset the printer
Reset the printer to recover from printer errors or failures.
If your printer has a rechargeable battery, remove it.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
Unplug the power cord from the power source.
Wait 60 seconds.
Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.
NOTE:
HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.
Turn on the printer to complete the reset.
You may refer to this document for further assistance.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

My 9010 wouldn't update either, kept failing and going offline. I followed the instructions provided here by @Elohi_NR to reset the printer, by unplugging it from both the back of the device and wall outlet, waiting 60 sec and powering it up. There is no direct Firmware download link, for a manual install. Nor could I find a way to install from the printer. So I forced an update through the installed HP Smart Software on my laptop, chose Printer Settings>the Advanced Settings>Printer Update. I didn't expect it to work, as I'd done multiple reboots on the printer, just not the cable removal and waiting :60. Surprisingly it finally took. My printer has updated from Firmware MANHTNPP1N002.2313A.00 from 3/2023 to MANHTNPP1N002.2329B.00 7/22/2023. (Side Note: I'd disabled Firmware Updates in the Admin Settings to prevent the unit from going offline, while I waited for a fix. I had to enable updates in order to do the above steps.)
This printer has been a pain since day one. I dread every firmware/software update that comes through, fearing it will break something. I'm not a PC hater or anything, but having been on Macs the last 20 years, using this printer reminds me of my old PC days where every driver, software update had the potential to completely jack up my computer. PCs are SO much more stable these days. HP needs to do better. That this forum is littered with this specific firmware updating problem, you'd think HP would recognize the issue. I'd read in the press a few months back about HP pushing a firmware that bricked a bunch of printers, and was fearing the worst. For now, I'm hopeful things keep on working until my Insta Ink credit is exhausted. Then I'll likely look elsewhere for a replacement.

I am also having the same problem. My printer will not download the new update. Everything I try to reset, restore factory settings, unplug, remove the printer and add it again is not working. I have tried updating the firmware directly on the printer and also through the HP Support App and it still does not work. I really need to fix this issue ASAP.
Thank you ,
