Printer is fairly old. I was able to add the officejet j4680 drivers however the systems. like it did not recognize them. I deleted the printer and drivers and then readded twrice.
steps take to add
click apple on system menu
click system preferences
click printers and scanner
plus sign to add printer which shows installed printer
clicked on default name of the installed printer
this is when I get an error "stating that an error occurred while trying to add the selected device. unable to find an appropriate software on your system after running software update.
Next step I selected HP DeskJet Series under the Use window and clicked. This step loads drives however upon downloading and installing print functionality still doesn't wok.
Help! Are there more HP drivers to try?

Hi,
Click the Apple menu and then About This Mac, then press Software Update and ensure the latest updates are installed.
Now try adding the printer via System Preferences again and check for any difference.
If the same persists, try installing below package and then add the printer and check for any change:

Shlomi,
My OS was at the most updated version. I performed the remaining steps you suggested up deleting and adding the printer band and it worked as you suggested without installing the additional package.
Thanks for your help. It was a tremendous burden removed!
