HP P1006 Series

I had to factory reset my Mac 2017 and now my HP P006 won't work. I am trying to re-connect to iMAC stand alone 2017 device with macOS Ventura version 13.6.4.  I have added the printer multiple times and selected the right software driver.

it shows as default printer, and when I look at the Queue window, the line moves across the screen, evidencing something is trying to print. It states "Finished" but nothing comes out on the printer.  All hardware connections secure).

It worked beautifully before the Mac's factory reset.  I've added the printer and re-added it.  I've downloaded HP Easy Start and tried other helps on the HP website.  I really need this printer!  If you can assist, I thank you so much!

Hi @kmccartn,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're experiencing a frustrating issue with your HP LaserJet P1006 printer after resetting your Mac. Given that the printer worked well before the reset and now doesn't print despite showing that the job has "Finished," there are a few steps you can try to resolve this:

1. Reset the Printing System:

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click (or Control-click) in the printer list and choose "Reset printing system...".
  • This will remove all printers and reset the printing system.
  • Re-add your HP LaserJet P1006 and try printing again.

2. Verify the Driver:

  • Ensure that you're using the correct and most up-to-date driver for your printer.
  • Visit the HP Support website and search for the latest driver compatible with macOS Ventura.
  • Reinstall the driver, if necessary, and select it when adding the printer.

3. Use HP Easy Start: HP Easy Start

  • Although you've already tried HP Easy Start, let's make sure it was done with all previous installations removed.
  • Uninstall any HP software you have installed.
  • Restart your Mac.
  • Download and run HP Easy Start again, making sure to follow all instructions carefully.

4. Try a Different Connection Method:

  • If you’re connecting via USB, ensure the cable and ports are working correctly.
  • Try using a different USB port or cable, if possible.
  • If you’re connecting via Wi-Fi or network, ensure the printer and Mac are on the same network and that there are no network issues.

5. Check for macOS Updates:

  • Ensure that your macOS Ventura 13.6.4 is fully updated.
  • Sometimes, minor updates can fix compatibility issues with printers.

6. Reset Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • If your printer's firmware is outdated, it might not communicate properly with the Mac.
  • Check the HP website for any available firmware updates for your printer model.

7. Test with a Different Document or Application:

  • Try printing a different type of document (e.g., PDF, Word) from a different application.
  • Sometimes, issues can be specific to a certain application or file type.

8. Check Print Queue for Errors:

  • Open the print queue window and look for any error messages or warnings.
  • Clear any stuck print jobs and try printing a new document.

Refer to this document: HP LaserJet P1006 Printer User manual

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
