Printer has developed a calibration issue. Printer defaults to need for calibration and says to insert paper and press ok. After doing so and printing one document, printer again says needs calibration and to insert paper and press ok, and after doing so and printing a document, cycles back to calibration again. Have tried simulating cartridge replacement and rebooting printer and problem still exists. Any ideas?

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

Flower_Bud is at your service.

As I understand, your printer gets stuck in calibration,

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

When was the last time it worked fine?

Were there any hardware/software changes made?

Let's try these steps to resolve the issue:

  • Remove Ink cartridges
  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till the warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
  • Install Ink cartridges when printer prompts you to install them.

Let me know how this goes,

Cheers!

Thank you very much Flower_Bud, your suggestion worked.  Now, can I unplug from the wall outlet and replug into a surge protector?

Thank you for the update,

I appreciate your time and efforts,

I would suggest you always keep your printer connected directly to a wall outlet instead of a surge protector because if the device is connected to a Surge Protector there might be static on the line which could cause the Printer not to function properly at times.

I'm glad to hear the issue is resolved 😉

You've been great to work with and it has been a genuine pleasure interacting with you.

If you need further assistance, feel free to reach out to us 🙂

Take care now and do have a fabulous week ahead. 🙂

Noted...thank you.

May I share a special thanks to the forum!  I called HP tech support after posting this morning and before receiving your response.  Tech support suggested powering off and unplugging the device; when that did not work they said the printer needed to be replaced as the issue was hardware related.

Thanks again!
