I recently upgraded my PC to Windows 10, moved from Windows 7 to 10.  After the upgrade I checked the printer.  Printer functions normally except for the scan feature.  When I click on the "Scan a document or photo" option, the next window that opens has all the options blank.  See photo attached.  I have tried to uninstall the printer software, and installed the latest win10 complete software package.  I have also updated the video drivers to the latest win10 version.  All other software appears to be functioning normally.    Any suggestions??  Thanks in advance for any help. Blank optionsBlank options

I do not "upgrade" Windows versions - migrated "upgraded" Windows can (in my experience) result in a computer that is not quite Windows 7 and not quite Windows 10.  Some weird bits may not fully translate, in other words.  Personal opinion; you are free to ignore it.  Smiling.

I can offer some limited advice....

Make sure all the Windows 10 Updates are current and installed.  After an "change in OS version", it sometimes takes several 'rounds' until all the latest Windows 10 Updates are done installing.

If you did not do so the first time you uninstalled the existing printer software, be sure you Uninstall the software and then Restart the computer and log in.  Follow the Restart with an install of the Full Feature Software from the printer's Website Support page.  Once the printer software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.  Consider installing / updating the Firmware, too.  If you update the firmware, Restart the computer and log in.

For example:

Hint:  For best results, do not ignore the suggested Restart sequences.

Printer Software – Uninstall Existing Software

If the software is already installed and you want (need) to uninstall it:

Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features >

Scroll down, click, and Uninstall the software

After the software is removed, Restart the computer and log in

If printer software will not uninstall, appears to be removed and then shows up again, or is otherwise not “going away” when you tell it to do so, try an Uninstaller program.

Microsoft:  Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed

Printer Software – Lurking in the Device Manager

If, after the Restart, the printer is still lurking about in the Device Manager, remove it.

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers

Expand category Printers

If any printer name or “Unknown Device” is listed,

Right-Click on the printer / device > Uninstall

Restart the computer and log in

Printer Software - Installation

NOTE:  If using USB, disconnect the USB cable between the printer and the computer before starting the installation.  Connect the cable when instructed to do so (toward the end of the installation procedure).

Download, save, and install the Full Feature Software for your Operating System version

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

Video help

NOTE:  Videos may be found in one or more locations (depending on printer / software / version)

Open the printer Software and Drivers page >

Scroll down and select Related Videos > Click View All >

Find and view the relevant video

AND / OR

Printer Homepage – “Things that are your printer”

Firmware

Consider installing the printer Firmware

READ (when provided) all instructions before installing the firmware

If / After the firmware is installed, Restart the computer and log in

Reminder:  Firmware is normally updated after the printer software is installed / functional.

The only other thing I can think to check is the fonts - make sure you are not using an Odd font set.  Printer software (and most everything else) depends on using a TrueType font (as in the standard installed fonts).  Using an odd (or user installed font set) can result in blank menus and odd results in Windows.

Thanks for the ideas!  This is my first upgrade to Win10.  Thought about doing a complete wipe.  But there are over 10 applications that would have to re-installed which as you know can be a significant time committment.  However, may still end up going that route if I can't fix this problem.  I will try all you suggest and keep you posted.  Again, thanks for your input.

You are welcome.

Applications do not always survive the upheaval caused by a change in the version of the Operating System.  Printer software never survives.  Other applications may also need to be uninstalled / installed  - perhaps upgraded to a Windows 10 compatible version of the software.

I did (a few years ago) have one "migrated" system that I left in that condition even after it was evident that the migration was about 90% effective.  In general, I left it "upgraded" rather than "clean install it" because I was curious about the effectsl.  I was also using the system as an example for the purpose of helping others who had "migrated".

In other words, you may well get a way with it.  Smiling.

Good Luck.

I had the same problem and HP Support tried to solve it, but ultimately were unsuccessful.  The problem is with the HP Simplified fonts that the HP Scan app uses.  The fix is simple.  Uninstall all 6 HP Simplified fonts.  Download them from the web, reinstall them and your HP Scan app works like before.

Type "font settings" in the Windows 10 search box and open Font Settings.  Find HP Simplified, click on it and uninstall it.  Repeat 5 more times to delete all 6 versions of the font.  Download a new version of the font from

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1QbxIuEaJwh8Ea9NKmyDyaS1lRrGuiFxC%MCEPASTEBIN%

Double click on each of the 6 font folders that download the click "Install".  Once all 6 have been reinstalled, open your HP Scan app and the text will be visible.

I love you DD47!  I wasted countless hours on trying to fix this.  Thank you for figuring out the real root cause (which the supplier couldn't figure out).

Also to uninstall, why do I have to individually select 10 different packages?!  Terrible product design.
