I updated the firmware and now the HP Printer Assistant is not working on the "Maintain your Printer" option. I can't do any maintenance because it say "unable to communicate with usb device". It also won't read the estimated cartridge level. I already uninstalled the software twice and its still not working right. One strange thing I notice is that on the Device information tab its still showing the previous firmware version. Not the new one which is 00.222B.00 Any suggestions you can provide I would greatly appreciate. Thank you in advance for your expert advise.

Hi @peteiii21,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you are experiencing issues with HP Printer Assistant not communicating in the "Maintain Your Printer" tab for your HP Envy Photo 7858 printer, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue.
- Check the printer connection: Make sure your printer is properly connected to your computer and turned on. If your printer is connected via USB cable, make sure the cable is securely plugged into both the printer and your computer. If your printer is connected wirelessly, make sure it is connected to the same network as your computer.
- Restart your printer and computer: Sometimes simply restarting your printer and computer can help resolve communication issues.
- Update printer drivers: Make sure your printer drivers are up to date. You can download and install the latest drivers from the HP website.
- Uninstall and reinstall the printer software: If updating the drivers doesn't help, try uninstalling and reinstalling the printer software. To do this, go to the Control Panel and select "Programs and Features." Find the HP printer software in the list of installed programs and select "Uninstall." Then, go to the HP website and download the latest software for your printer model.
- Disable firewall/antivirus software: Sometimes firewall or antivirus software can interfere with the communication between your printer and computer. Try temporarily disabling these programs to see if it helps.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thank you Alden4 for your help in trying to resolve my problem. Unfortunately I've tried everything you suggested. Nothing has work. Maybe this other information you might have an idea. I notice that on the "Maintain your Printer" tap in the "device info" the firmware its showing is the previous"PALSUPPPXN003.1925A.00" but the actual printer shows "003.2220B". Which is the firmware I updated from the HP Support page. So why is the HP Printer assistant software reading the wrong firmware. Hope you can find a fix. Again thank you for all your help. Take care and stay safe.
