Hi @

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that you are facing issues with the HP Printer which is not detected via USB. I regret to hear that you have few troubleshooting which did not resolve the issues. I would request you to perform the below steps.

Check USB Cable and Port:

  • Make sure the USB cable is not damaged and is firmly connected to both the printer and the laptop.
  • Try connecting the printer to a different USB port on your laptop.
  • Use a different USB cable if possible to rule out a defective cable.

Restart Devices:

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect it from the power source for a couple of minutes.
  • Power down your laptop as well, wait for a minute, then turn both devices back on and reconnect the USB cable.

Reinstall Drivers

Uninstall Old Drivers:

  • Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
  • Find the HP printer software, select it, and then choose Uninstall.

Remove Printer from Devices:

  • Go to Devices and Printers in the Control Panel.
  • Right-click your printer and select Remove device.

Download and Install the Latest Drivers:

  • Visit the HP Support - Software and Drivers page and enter your printer model to download the most recent driver for your system.
  • Install the driver by following the on-screen instructions. Make sure the printer is connected via USB during the installation process.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hello @Pallipurath

I appreciate you for replying

I already did all the steps you said before I asked in this forum, from reinstalling driver to checking the physical hardware, again I'm not really sure is it the printer itself that caused this problem or something, doing the basic stuff like downloading the official driver from Software and Driver page did nothing.

I tried to connect the usb and somehow the driver installer just won't detect the usb connection as printer, in Device Manager it shows that USB Printer is connected (Smart Tank 580-590 USB), it's like my laptop reads the USB connection but its not giving any printer data to my laptop to make it recognizeable as a printer instead it just showing the USB connection name

Hi @IdkEvenKnow

Thank you for responding.

I regret to hear that you are facing issues with printer which is not detecting Via USB and you are unable to print. I would request you to please follow the steps:

Check USB Connection

  • Ensure that your USB cable is properly connected both to the printer and your computer. It might be helpful to try a different USB cable or port to rule out a faulty cable or port.

Device Manager

  • You mentioned that the Device Manager shows "USB Printer."
  • If it's listed with an error, try right-clicking on the device and selecting "Uninstall."
  • Then disconnect and reconnect the printer to let Windows try to recognize the device again.

Printer Queue

  • Go to the Control Panel > Devices and Printers, and check that your printer is not paused or offline.
  • Right-click the printer, and ensure that "Use Printer Offline" is not selected.

Clean Installation of Drivers:

  • Disconnect the printer from the computer.
  • Uninstall all printer software from your computer.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Visit the HP Software and Driver page, download the latest drivers, and reinstall them.
  • Connect your printer when prompted by the installation process.

Check for Windows Updates

Hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persists.

Have a good day.
