HP ENVY 6055e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi everyone, I have an HP Envy 6055e printer that I setup years ago when I first got it. We recently switched over to a new Wifi, so I was trying to do the Wifi setup following instructions I found online. It was working fine until I go to the HP Smart app and it shows that rmy printer is offline. It is very clearly not offline, it is on, lights are flashing, and it prints the information page when holding the "I" button on the printer. I have not been able to find anything useful since everything requires the printer to show online. I tried it on my smart phone and my computer and they are all showing it is offline. Any help would appreciated as I need this printer to be connected back to Wifi ASAP.

@Aidan4185, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP Printer Showing as Offline During Wi-Fi Setup!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your HP Envy 6055e printer is showing as offline during a new setup process even though it's powered on and printing information, the issue might be related to a network misconfiguration or connectivity problem. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve this:

Ensure Wireless Light Is On:

  • Make sure the wireless (802.11) light on the printer is on. If the light is not lit, the wireless capabilities may not have been turned on. Tap the Wi-Fi button on the printer, then navigate to Settings > Wireless > On.

Restart Network Devices:

  • Restart your router and printer. Turn off the router first, then the printer. Turn them back on in reverse order—router first, then the printer. This can often solve network communication issues.

Check Printer Connectivity:

  • Ensure that no Ethernet cable is connected to the printer, as this will disable wireless capabilities.

Print a Wireless Test Report:

  • Print a Wireless Network Test page to diagnose connectivity issues. On the printer's control panel, tap the "I" button, then navigate to Settings > Print Wireless Network Test. Follow any recommendations provided in the printed report to solve detected problems.

Verify IP Address and Hostname:

  • If the printer receives its IP address from a DHCP server, the IP address may change between uses. Ensure that the IP address on the printer matches the one on your computer's printer settings. Alternatively, use the hostname for network configurations to avoid mismatches.
  • To set a fixed IP address, go to the printer control panel, tap the Wi-Fi or LAN icon, then navigate to Settings > Advanced setup > IP settings > Manual, and enter the IP address, subnet mask, and gateway.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi there, I have tried all of these steps below.

The printer is flashing a purple bar on it and the wireless light is blinking. I tried printing the test wireless information and that printed as well. The router has been reset several times. On the HP Smart app the printer is still showing as offline. I am following the steps to hook the printer up to a new Wifi network and it is still showing as offline on the HP Smart app. I tried using the Wifi direct method and it said "could not contact printer" when I went to print once connected to the network.

I am not sure that this would have anything to do with the Wifi network as that is working properly. The printer simply shows on the HP Smart app that it is offline when it is clearly not. Since I have tried all the steps you provided, what are my other options? I need this printer to work. I attached a screenshot of it showing as offline.

Any other help would be appreciated. Thank you

@Aidan4185, thanks for the update — and I hear your frustration loud and clear. You’ve done all the right things so far, and it’s especially maddening when your printer is clearly awake, blinking, and even printing info pages, yet still acts “invisible” to the HP Smart app.

That blinking purple light is a clue — it usually means the printer is in Wi-Fi setup mode, waiting to connect. But if the app can’t see it, chances are the connection between your device and the printer is getting tripped up by one of these:

Try This Next:

Forget and Re-add Printer in HP Smart App
Open HP Smart, remove the printer if it’s already added, then try adding it again fresh. This clears out stale config that may be interfering.

Use HP Smart on a Different Device (if available)
If possible, try the setup from a different phone/tablet/laptop. Sometimes a single device’s cache or permissions get in the way.

Reset Printer Network Settings
On the printer, press and hold the Wi-Fi + Cancel buttons for about 5 seconds until the power light flashes. This resets all network settings, letting you start from scratch.

Reconnect via HP Smart in Setup Mode
Right after resetting, go back to HP Smart, and it should detect the printer in setup mode (the purple light confirms it's broadcasting). Follow the prompts and connect to your new Wi-Fi.

Let me know how this goes — and hang in there. We’ll get that printer back online!

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
