I have had repeated problems with HP Print and Scan Doctor causing app crashes on my computer. Though it appears on my desktop, it does NOT appear in Apps and Features among other installed programs. I have no idea how to remove it from my computer. I cannot understand why it is not listed as an installed program I have HP Smart on my computer and it does not appear as an installed app either.

Hi @Scotsman2,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Print and Scan Doctor and HP Smart may have become "stuck" in your system, potentially due to incomplete uninstallation or installation issues.
Here's how you can try to remove HP Print and Scan Doctor and HP Smart:
1. Use HP's Official Uninstaller Uninstall HP printer software and drivers | undefined
HP provides a tool called the HP Uninstaller, which can help remove HP software completely, including HP Print and Scan Doctor:
- Download the HP Smart Uninstaller tool from the official HP website (if available) or check with the HP Support Assistant.
- Run it to attempt a clean uninstallation of HP Smart and HP Print and Scan Doctor.
2. Uninstall from Control Panel
Even though HP Print and Scan Doctor doesn't appear in the Apps & Features list, try checking Control Panel for its uninstaller:
- Press Windows + R, type control, and press Enter.
- In the Control Panel, go to Programs > Programs and Features.
- Look for any HP software related to HP Print and Scan Doctor or HP Smart.
- Right-click and choose Uninstall if it's listed.
3. Delete the Program Folder Manually
If the software isn't listed in either of the above methods, you can manually remove its files:
- Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\HP or C:\Program Files\HP and look for the folder related to HP Print and Scan Doctor or HP Smart.
- If found, delete the folder.
- You may need to confirm admin rights to delete it.
4. Remove via PowerShell
If the software still isn’t removed, you can try uninstalling it through PowerShell:
- Press Windows + X and choose Windows Terminal (Admin).
- Type the following command to see all installed apps:
- Look for any HP-related entries, such as HPPrintScanDoctor, and take note of their full names.
- Run this command to remove the app:
5. Reinstall and Then Uninstall
If none of the above works, you could reinstall HP Smart and HP Print and Scan Doctor, then attempt to uninstall them again via Apps & Features or the Control Panel.
Let me know if any of these steps work or if you need further assistance!

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

There is no problem with HP Smart. It is listed as an installed program. HP Print and Scan Doctor is the real problem as it is no longer compatible with WIndows 11, and does not appear among the installed programs. This could in part account for recent problems where my color cartridge cannot communicate with my HP 3 in 1 printer. I will try to download the HP software removal tool, that I assume is available on this page. Can the tool be used to only remove specific HP apps, as the Print and Scan Doctor seems to be the app that's the source of the problem?
