HP Smart APP says it is on my PC but it does not show up in my list of APPS.  I spent a couple of hours with HP support and they were able to get my printer Officejet Pro 7740 working for a couple of days then it stopped working again today .  The HP APP not working either,  and I cannot uninstall it as it does not show up in my list of APPS and if I try to install it is says already on PC

Sounds like an error in Windows that it cannot see an installed application.

The problem is that applications are generally installed in a protected part of the Windows Operating System.

For those reading

Settings > Apps > Apps and Features

Enter HP Smart in the search bar or peruse the list to find which applications are installed

Side Note - Odd Bird

Noted here just as FYI...

If you have the OfficeJet Pro 7740 full driver printer software installed, it will likely show up in the Apps list.

(Possibly listed as HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Basic Device Software)

True - the full driver printer software is installed in Programs and Features.

When installed, the full driver software will also be listed in Apps and Features

HP Smart and the full driver printer software are not the same thing.

What to do?

Not sure - were it me, I might ask Microsoft about apps that don't show up and won't install...

What else?

Try resetting the Microsoft Store - the error could well be a problem in the store.

Windows 10 – Windows 11

Fix problems with apps from Microsoft Store

More guessing...

Run Windows Updates - this is just to be sure all current / pending updates are installed.

If you do install any updates, Afterwards:  Restart the computer and log in

Check again that HP Smart is not lurking / listed in Settings > Apps > Apps and Features

If you do find it, you can try uninstalling it.

If you do uninstall the app, Restart the computer and log in.

Open Settings > Apps > Apps and Features

Search again for the HP Smart app.

What else?

You could try creating a new (additional) account on the computer.

Why?  PrinterControl exists in two locations:

  • Windows in a protected area of the system
  • C:\Users\YourAccount\AppData\Local\Packages

It is possible that the error is located in your account.

It is possible that the Registry will correct itself if you use a different account to look for the app and install the app.

What else?

It is possible there is a Registry error.  Not sure about anyone else, I do not provide advice on editing the Registry - personal choice.

Will any of this make a difference?

Maybe, though it does seem that support would have already covered the meager offerings in this message.
