Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP Smart App is no longer displaying the icon on my desktop. It only displays a white file folder. I tried deleting the app and re-installing it.  The icon and app will pin to the start menu, but when I attempt to move the icon and app to the desktop by dragging it the icon disappears and displays only a white file folder.

Hi @RK3091,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the HP Smart App icon is no longer displaying on your Windows 10 computer, there are several potential reasons and solutions to consider.

  • Restart your computer: Sometimes, simple issues like this can be resolved by restarting your computer. Restarting can refresh the system and might bring back the missing icon.
  • Check the system tray (notification area): The HP Smart App icon might be hidden in the system tray. Click the small arrow (^) located on the taskbar to expand the system tray and see if the icon is present there.
  • Search for the app: Use the Windows search feature to find the HP Smart App on your computer. Type "HP Smart" in the search box on the taskbar and see if the app appears in the search results.
  • Pin the app to the taskbar: If you find the HP Smart App through the search, you can pin it to the taskbar for easy access. Right-click on the app's icon in the search results and select "Pin to taskbar."
  • Reinstall the app: If the app is still missing, it's possible that the app's installation might be corrupted. Try uninstalling the app and then reinstalling it from the official HP website or the Microsoft Store.
  • Check for updates: Ensure that both Windows 10 and the HP Smart App are up to date. Outdated software can sometimes lead to issues like missing icons.
  • Check notification settings: Some apps may have their notification icons turned off. Right-click on the taskbar, select "Taskbar settings," and scroll down to the "Notification area" section. Click on "Select which icons appear on the taskbar" and ensure that the HP Smart App is enabled.
  • Check for hidden icons: Sometimes, Windows may hide certain icons in the system tray. Go to "Taskbar settings" again and click on "Turn system icons on or off" to see if the HP Smart App icon is set to be hidden. If it is, toggle it on.
  • Run the app as an administrator: Right-click on the HP Smart App icon (if you find it) and select "Run as administrator." This might help if there are permission-related issues.
  • Run a malware scan: In some cases, malware or viruses can interfere with app icons and functionality. Run a thorough scan using your preferred antivirus software to ensure your system is clean.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the issue with the missing HP Smart App icon on your Windows 10 computer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
