I have an OfficeJet 5252 that I use with Wi-Fi Direct to print from my Android smartphone. The Samsung Print Service connects just fine over wi-fi direct for printing. However, to SCAN a document with my all-in-one printer, it says I have to use the HP Smart app.
The problem is this: I have no wi-fi internet access (which is WHY I use wi-fi direct), and the HP Smart app doesn't recognize the Wi-Fi Direct connection to the printer. How do I get the app to recognize the printer on wi-fi direct so that I can scan my documents?

Hi,
Wi-Fi Direct generally allow printing only, scanning is supported on select printers only with the Mopria scan app, which does not support your printer and therefore not applicable.
You may use Webscan to scan from the printer EWS page, please expend the 'Scan with an HP printer (Chromebooks) > Scan with Webscan (Chromebooks)' section, this should work with a mobile device as well:
